p.1

The provision is good

The childminder works hard with parents to meet their children's unique needs. She has clear aims for the curriculum and provides a learning environment that is appealing to children. Overall, she uses the play environment and resources effectively to encourage children to explore and learn. Children show that they feel safe and happy in the care of the childminder as they begin to follow simple instructions as part of becoming ready for school. They show great excitement and independence as they complete tasks, such as chopping fruit or managing their personal care needs, without help. The childminder knows children well and has clear expectations of what they can achieve. She carefully and accurately monitors their progress from when they first begin their time with her. She knows what she needs to plan for them next to help them become ready for their future learning and for future life. Children have good attitudes to learning and behave in positive

need to do better?

n Overall, the childminder provides children with good-quality play experiences that help them to make positive progress in their learning. She is reflective and clear about what she wants children to learn and why, right from the start. Children's activities and experiences help them to remember previous learning and gain the skills they need to succeed at school. n Children respond well to the childminder's effective interactions, which help them to develop good communication and language skills. However, very occasionally, the childminder does not give children the time they need to think or respond to her interesting questions and suggestions, to extend their learning even further. n Children develop good mathematical skills. They are motivated to learn and demonstrate what they know and can do as they spend long periods completing their favourite mathematical activities. The childminder supports this learning

well. However, some opportunities are not taken to include all of the areas of learning to further extend their skills and widen their interests. n The childminder helps children to develop good attitudes towards learning. Children clearly enjoy their time with the childminder as they play together. The childminder makes learning enjoyable. For example, children enjoyed learning about healthy and unhealthy foods during a board game. The childminder encouraged children to explore the letters and sounds that formed words, such as 'pineapple', as part of helping them to learn about healthy eating. n The childminder helps children to develop good levels of confidence and emotional well-being in readiness for starting school. She praises them often and allows them to manage tasks for themselves to encourage their independence.

need to do better?

12 September 2019 Children are beginning to manage their own behaviour well and show positive attitudes towards the childminder as she helps them to understand her expectations. n Partnership working is good. Parents report that they are very happy with the quality of care and learning that the childminder provides for their children. n The childminder is vigilant and keeps children safe wherever she takes them. She helps them to learn about staying safe as part of their everyday routines. Her risk assessments are good and sensible precautions are balanced with opportunities for children to learn about managing risks. n The childminder continually builds on her knowledge and skills to improve her practice and children's learning. She thinks about what is working well and what

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder has a clear policy and procedures for safeguarding children and has used training updates well to keep up to date with current child protection issues. She understands the signs and symptoms of abuse and wider aspects, such as recognising when a child is at risk of being drawn into extreme behaviours and views. She knows how to recognise children who may need early help and how to report any concerns to the correct agencies. The childminder is vigilant and uses risk assessment well to keep children safe in her home and wherever they go with her.
