The provision is good
The childminder supports young children effectively so that they feel safe and develop secure attachments. Children settle quickly and enjoy cuddles when needed throughout the day. They are eager to explore and learn to manage risks as they climb steps in the garden and use play equipment. The childminder has high expectations for all children and plans ambitious and enjoyable activities based on children's interests. She uses observations and information shared by parents to find out what children already know. This supports her in extending children's experiences and building on what they need to learn next. However, suggestions to continue learning at home are not always consistent. Children have plenty of space to explore the childminder's home, inside and outside, and to make progress in their physical skills. For example, young children draw with chalk, ride on tricycles, climb steps on the slide and visit the local community garden. They

demonstrate positive attitudes to learning, are curious and engaged. Children behave well. They are happy and focused. The childminder speaks in a calm and caring manner, and children listen well and respond positively. Young children show resilience and determination. They learn to post shapes into the shape sorter independently and enjoy receiving praise from the childminder for their achievements. Children benefit from the childminder's enthusiastic storytelling. Young children snuggle up close and help to turn the pages. They copy actions, identify animal sounds and repeat words, which increases their vocabulary and encourages their love of reading.

n The childminder displays a good knowledge and understanding of how children learn and develop. She has high aspirations for children and organises well- planned activities to increase their experiences and help them gain skills for future learning, inside and outdoors. She joins in with children's play to extend their learning. For example, they pretend to feed the dolls and go shopping together, using the play till and money to buy food. This supports children's imaginations and interest in how things work. Children develop positive attitudes to their play and are eager to learn while playing with the childminder. n Children's communication and language skills are promoted extremely well. The childminder models language successfully. She encourages young children to extend single words into short sentences. She provides a language-rich environment. The childminder plans a variety of resources to support their good hand-to-eye coordination and muscular skills. These include painting and using stampers, throwing balls, and chasing and popping bubbles. n The childminder forms close bonds with children. This enables them to display good levels of confidence and ensures that they are comfortable to learn and explore. Young children enjoy being independent and helping the childminder with tasks. They find their shoes, throw rubbish in the bin, count and wash strawberries for snack time and remove the leaves before eating them. n Partnerships with parents are strong. The childminder gathers information from parents to help identify their children's starting points. The good exchange of daily information supports children's ongoing welfare and learning. The

childminder provides quarterly progress updates. However, she does not consistently share ideas about how parents could further extend their children's learning at home. n The childminder is committed to ongoing professional development and regularly attends training. She is proactive in reading and researching to help keep her knowledge about early years issues up to date. This has assisted her in maintaining high standards of teaching and learning to enhance children's skills for future learning. n Children enjoy healthy nutritious meals and snacks prepared by the childminder. She uses opportunities to promote messages about healthy lifestyles. Young children learn routines well and know why they need to wash their hands to remove germs after playing in the garden and before eating. The childminder teaches children to clean their teeth after lunch, which supports their physical health. n The childminder successfully reflects on her practice and makes improvements

that benefit the children. She has addressed her previous recommendation and shares information with other settings to maintain a consistent approach. She seeks views from parents, evaluates her activities and uses assessments to improve the service she provides.

Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
p.3
Safeguarding
The childminder can demonstrate her understanding of the importance of keeping children safe. She regularly updates her training and knows the signs that may indicate a child is at risk of harm. She has procedures in place and knows how to make a referral if she has any concerns regarding a child's welfare. The childminder teaches children about keeping themselves safe. For example, they practise fire evacuations so they know what to do in an emergency. They learn to cross the road safely, and younger children hold the childminder's hand and wear high-visibility jackets when on outings.
