p.1

This provision is inadequate

n The childminder does not monitor the effectiveness of her service sufficiently well. n The childminder does not have a good enough knowledge of safeguarding matters to give the correct support and advice to her assistant. For example, she does not understand how to deal with allegations and does not provide a safeguarding policy that includes the required information. n Occasionally, children wait some time for their meals to be ready. This may compromise children's behaviour.

p.1

It has the following strengths

n Children are provided with nutritious meals and snacks that meet their health and dietary needs. n The childminder and her assistant build warm relationships with children, who show that they are happy and feel secure. Children's emotional well-being is supported effectively. n Children have regular opportunities to play outdoors. This supports children who learn best outdoors and contributes to children's physical well-being.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To meet the requirements of the early years foundation stage and Childcare Register the provider must: Due date improve knowledge and understanding of safeguarding to provide support, guidance and advice to any assistants about safeguarding matters 09/08/2019

p.2

provide a safeguarding policy that includes the action to be taken in the event of an allegation being made, and check that those working with children know how to implement the policy when concerns about a child's welfare arise 09/08/2019

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

n review lunch time routines to minimise the waiting time for children.

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

n The inspector reviewed documents, including children's records, policies and evidence of staff suitability and professional development. n The inspector observed an activity that took place with children and discussed this with the childminder. n The inspector observed the quality of interactions and activities provided for children, and assessed the impact of these on children's learning. n The inspector spoke with the childminder and her assistant at appropriate times, and sought the views of parents during the inspection visit.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is inadequate

Safeguarding is not effective. The childminder does not evaluate her service effectively to ensure requirements are met. Although the childminder has completed safeguarding training, she lacks the knowledge required to provide safeguarding support and advice to her assistant. She does not demonstrate a secure understanding of how to deal with an allegation, and does not ensure that her safeguarding policy includes information about this. The childminder does not check that her assistant knows how to correctly respond if she has concerns about the behaviour of the childminder. This puts children at risk. The childminder supports her assistant to understand the care and development needs of the children in her care. Children enjoy the activities that they engage with.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Children have access to a range of accessible resources inside and outdoors. The childminder and her assistant encourage children's mathematical development, for instance, when they count items together. They help children to learn about the difference between hot and cold. For example, they explore the effect of the sun on ice surrounding miniature toy animals. Children wait patiently for the ice to melt and enjoy using their physical strength to smash the blocks of ice to free the animals. The childminder and her assistant provide opportunities for children to sing, rhyme and share stories.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are inadequate

Due to weaknesses in safeguarding, children's overall welfare is not assured. Despite this, some personal needs of children are met effectively. The childminder assesses risks and manages the health needs of children appropriately when away from her setting. Children learn how to maintain good health. They ask for water when thirsty and understand the need to wear sun hats when playing outdoors. Children behave and play together well. They demonstrate positive relationships with the childminder, her assistant and each other. The childminder and her assistant encourage children to make choices. For example, children choose what animals to sing about.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children begin to recognise their physical needs in warm weather and show curiosity as they explore ice. Older children learn to become more independent as they prepare to move on to school. Children interact with each other in positive ways, such as making space for each other. Children acquire the skills that they need for future learning.
