This provision is inadequate
n The childminder lacks an understanding of safeguarding issues and potential risks to children. She is not aware of all her responsibilities to ensure the suitability of adults who come in contact with children. n The childminder does not fully implement procedures to ensure children are not at risk of harm and fully protect children in her care. She does not have an adequate understanding of statutory requirements. For example, she does not know what information must be reported to Ofsted. n Risk assessments are not effective, which compromises children's safety. The childminder does not take all reasonable steps to minimise potential risks.

p.2
Effectiveness of leadership and management is inadequate
Safeguarding is ineffective. Although the childminder can identify some indicators of abuse, she lacks an understanding of wider safeguarding issues. She does not recognise when children may be at risk of harm and does not consider all potential risks children could be exposed to. Although the childminder has notified Ofsted of significant events, she has not done so without prompting by other agencies or within the required timescale. Furthermore, the childminder does not provide a safe environment for children to play. She does not recognise all the potential hazards in her home. For example, dangerous substances are stored within reach of children. The childminder demonstrates a commitment to improve. For example, she attends childminder network meetings and training to develop her knowledge. Since the last inspection, the childminder has attended training to develop her knowledge of the learning and

development requirements, improving outcomes for children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder supports children's communication and language development well. For example, she encourages children to talk about their home life and interests. She introduces new words to help children develop their vocabulary. For example, during imaginary play, she helps children learn about dinosaurs being 'extinct'. Older children develop skills and knowledge in preparation for school. They hold pencils correctly and recognise letters and sounds, which they link to familiar objects. The childminder knows children well and carefully monitors their progress to help them progress. She shares information with parents to support continuity in care and learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are inadequate
Weaknesses in leadership and management compromise children's safety and welfare. Children make regular trips to the park, where they enjoy football and large apparatus, which supports their physical development. The childminder helps children to learn about healthy food and the importance of healthy eating. She helps develop children's confidence. For example, she encourages them, uses positive language and praises their achievements. Children behave well and understand what is expected of them.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop positive attitudes to learning. They develop their independence. For instance, they self-select resources, make choices and tidy away toys. Children are motivated to learn and concentrate well during activities. They develop mathematical skills. For example, they talk about size and recognise numbers.
