her already good teaching. For example, she has recently attended training to extend her understanding of how to support children to explore and manage their own behaviours. She networks with other local early years professionals to share good practice. n The childminder promotes children's language development well. For instance, she playfully engages in verbal play with younger children. She asks older children to describe their models and listens with interest to their responses. n The childminder does not consistently gather parents' views to help her to evaluate all areas of her provision. n Occasionally, the childminder overly directs children's play. This means that children cannot make best use of opportunities to develop their own play ideas.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is alert to possible signs that a child may be at risk of harm. She explains local procedures to follow if she has concerns about their well- being. She provides good opportunities for children to learn how to manage risks safely, such as using real tools. The childminder makes positive changes to enhance the quality of her good provision. For instance, since her last inspection she has built a bespoke playroom. This enables children to have access to an even greater range of resources to promote all areas of learning. The childminder regularly exchanges information with parents about children's learning. She frequently shares ideas to support children's development at home, such as strategies for promoting positive behaviour. This shared approach promotes continuity in children's learning and care.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder supports children to develop key skills in all areas of learning. For example, as younger children enjoy manipulating play dough, she discusses size and shape. Older children build on their knowledge of early mathematical concepts. For instance, they talk about cutting play dough in half. The childminder playfully joins in with children's spontaneous singing. Older children show visitors how to hold books correctly and confidently point out the title. This helps children to develop their early literacy skills. Children enjoy mark-making activities, such as drawing. They happily talk about their pictures and proudly display them on the wall. Older children recognise letters in their name. Children enjoy visiting facilities in the local community, such as toddler groups and parks. This helps them to gain an awareness of the world immediately beyond their own.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children follow the childminder's simple rules, such as sharing and using good manners. Older children negotiate the use of popular resources. As children enjoy making models, the childminder helps them to respect that other children may have ideas that are different to their own. The childminder plans activities to support children's growing understanding of the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle. For example, she invites health professionals to talk to children about good dental hygiene routines. She supports children to make healthy food choices and to be active outdoors. Children do some things for themselves, such as attending to their own personal needs. Children have good opportunities to learn about other cultures in the world. For example, they enjoy tasting food from other countries.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are well prepared for their next stage of learning. They are curious and motivated. For example, younger children enjoy exploring different sounds as they shake musical instruments. Older children show determination as they learn how to use digital cameras. Children are developing an increasing awareness of the world around them. For instance, older children notice when clouds become darker and predict that it will rain. They enthusiastically recall previous activities as they look at their learning journals with visitors.
