This provision is outstanding

n The experienced childminder makes superb use of the excellent links with other childminders in the local area. She facilitates the sharing of ideas and activities, for example, by developing a resource-borrowing service. This enables childminders to share resources, such as books on bereavement, to support specific children and their families. n Children explore ice and discuss how they could melt it to free the animals 'trapped in the ice'. They use different tools as they investigate what happens when warm water is poured onto the ice. Children are delighted when an animal eventually becomes 'free'. n The childminder maintains a warm, inviting and inclusive setting. Parents comment that they are 'always made to feel welcome' and are 'part of the family'. They hold complete trust in the childminder's ability to care, teach and support their children's well-being to the highest level. n The childminder uses her expert knowledge and skilful interactions to create high levels

of challenge for children. Her high-quality teaching skills capture children's attention and they become engrossed in their self-chosen tasks. n The childminder carries out extensive assessments and meticulously reviews children's achievements. This helps her to identify and address any gaps in learning and target precisely what children need to learn next. n The childminder skilfully helps children to understand the importance of keeping healthy and safe. She uses care routines, such as handwashing, to teach children about the importance of good hygiene practice and how this contributes to their very good health. n The childminder maintains very effective partnerships with other settings that children attend. She seeks parental permission before sharing information about their progress, to ensure assessment is accurate and consistent.

She intends to make use of further opportunities that will help her to maintain her already outstanding practice. completing extensive research and training.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder uses everyday experiences effectively to teach children about the different people that help us and what they do. Children watch and talk to the refuse workers collecting the bins, as she explains their role in helping to keep the streets safe and clean. The childminder is extremely mindful of the varying ages and abilities of the children she cares for. She subtly differentiates the resources in an activity to ensure all children have a go, keep motivated and learn. For example, when children say, 'It's really hard' to use the syringe driver, the childminder encourages them and also directs them to the pipettes, which helps them to be successful. This enables children to continue to persevere. Children enjoy classifying and labelling animal figures in the language-rich environment. They learn about the differences in the colours and markings of animals to help them hide and hunt in the different environments where they live.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The childminder highly values and respects the beliefs and cultures of the children attending. She conscientiously ensures that the festivals and events they follow are also celebrated in the setting. For example, on St David's Day the children learn to write and speak a sentence in Welsh. The childminder models expected behaviour and manners as she sits with children at snack time. Children's behaviour is exemplary. They take turns in conversation, share food and wait for their friends to finish eating at the table. Any disagreements are resolved easily as children work very well together to solve any problems. The childminder works in close collaboration with parents to offer a consistent approach to any strategies used at home to support their children. Parents value her extensive experience and knowledge, seeking her advice on common developmental concerns, such as toileting and children's behaviour.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children make excellent progress in relation to their initial starting points. They are acquiring the key skills necessary to be ready for school. Children's self-care skills are exceptional. They are highly competent at putting on their shoes and use the toilet independently.
