This provision is good

n Effective systems are in place to monitor staff performance, including agency and bank staff. Regular supervision meetings successfully support all staff to help identify their strengths, and where improvements can be made. n High priority is given to further promote children's good health. For example, children learn the effects of physical exercise on their bodies as they eagerly play tennis with a tennis coach. n Children form strong attachments with their key person. Key staff provide home visits, for example, to effectively build positive relationships with their key children and parents from the start. n The learning environment is well organised, allowing all children space to explore a wide range of planned experiences and activities. Very young children confidently crawl and hold on to furniture, indoors and outdoors, and older children eagerly make independent choices in their play. n Some staff do not make best use of interactions to extend and challenge children's

learning to an even higher level, particularly in the 'little blooms' room. n Some staff do not know how or when to accurately provide parents with a summary of children's development between the age of two and three years.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

n The inspector viewed documentation, including children's records, risk assessments, accident, incident and complaint records. n The inspector checked staff qualifications, training certificates and evidence of their ongoing suitability. n The inspector completed a joint observation with the manager and assessed the impact of the quality of teaching and learning. n The inspector spoke with parents to seek their views and comments.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The manager has robust systems in place to help keep children safe and from harm. The manager and staff, including bank and agency staff, regularly update their safeguarding knowledge to a good level. They clearly explain the local procedures to follow to report their concerns about a child's safety. Accidents, incidents and complaints are recorded and thoroughly investigated by the manager. Outcomes are shared with parents and external agencies in a timely manner. Self-evaluation seeks the views of staff, parents and children. Following recent parent surveys, weekly menus have been improved to further promote a healthy diet. Successful programmes for professional development help all staff to raise the quality of teaching to an even higher level.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Staff observe children and plan exciting experiences to help them make progress over time, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities. Staff support children's communication and language skills well. For example, staff skilfully provide a narrative alongside the youngest children's play as they keenly investigate a range of metal objects. In addition, staff frequently use mathematical language. For instance, as older children play with dough, water and sand, staff introduce counting and discussions on shape and quantity. Staff gain in-depth information from parents when children first start, to help them settle quickly. Staff successfully engage parents in children's learning at nursery and at home.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children's behaviour is good and they behave well at mealtimes. They use good manners and cooperatively serve themselves freshly prepared meals, such as lamb, cabbage and rice. This helps them gain self-control and respect for others. Healthy lifestyles are promoted to a high level. Children have ample time outdoors and plenty of physical exercise. They enjoy regular trips to local parks and the library to broaden their understanding and experiences in the local community. Staff support children to make a positive contribution, such as regularly recycling objects. Younger children recognise photos on drinking bottles and coat pegs, and older children self-register when they first arrive. All children have a strong sense of belonging and are emotionally secure.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Overall, all children make good progress from their starting points. They gain key skills to help prepare them for school. Children are motivated learners who are eager to join in. Older children speak clearly and express their ideas, and skilfully use a range of one- handed tools. Younger children join in rhymes and talk about their feelings.
