Effectiveness of leadership and management is outstanding
Safeguarding is highly effective. The childminder has an excellent understanding of child protection procedures. She uses the local authority website to keep her safeguarding knowledge up to date. She has recently introduced a text system that provides immediate support from the emergency services if her and the children need help. The childminder completes additional training that supports her excellent teaching practice and professional development. She has introduced ideas from the training to provide outstanding support for children who are learning English as an additional language. For instance, she has made special books for children which she uses with parents to carefully record children's language development.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding
The childminder dedicates her time to helping children to learn as much as they can. She consistently responds to children's individual interests and develops their excellent self- confidence and vocabulary. Children are exceptionally motivated learners and thoroughly enjoy the challenges the childminder provides during their play. The childminder provides numerous interesting activities which she uses to promote children's outstanding development. For instance, to support their understanding of the world, the childminder takes children to pick strawberries which they use to make fruit tarts and to farms where they feed lambs with bottles of milk. She skilfully teaches children how to do things, although occasionally she does not provide children with time to learn independently.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
The childminder works extremely well with parents and pre-schools to help children settle and feel very emotionally secure. She explains everything to the children in an exceptionally patient manner and sometimes in an excited voice while joining in their play. The childminder consistently includes children in any decision making. She encourages them to help to choose new toys and resources and discusses who will play with them and how important it is to share. The childminder teaches children to do as much as possible for themselves.
p.3
Outcomes for children are outstanding
Children are extremely well prepared for starting school. Their concentration is exceptional and they eagerly take part in group activities. For example, older children thoroughly enjoy looking for bugs in the garden and creating natural habitats using stones and leaves. Younger children develop excellent social skills. For instance, they confidently include others while using finger puppets and listening to stories. Children listen and respond to the childminder and their friends with great enthusiasm while learning about the weather, date, month and days of the week.
