with parents on drop off and collection. Parents comment highly on the provision. They feel their children have access to varied experiences and that the childminder has a positive influence on children's development. n The childminder continually reflects on her practice and provision and identifies areas for development. She effectively seeks the views of parents to help reflect on her practice. For example, she regularly asks them to comment on her childcare service and the good progress their children make. n At times, the childminder does not consistently allow children appropriate time to respond when asking them questions. This occasionally has an impact on children's ability to think for themselves and make decisions.

p.2
Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder regularly updates her safeguarding and wider child protection knowledge to a good level. She understands what to do if she has a concern about a child's welfare and knows the local reporting procedures to help keep children safe from harm. She completes daily checks of her home and makes sure that the play environment is safe for all children. The childminder has a good commitment towards professional development. She attends essential training, such as first aid and safeguarding. She meets up with other childminders to discuss good practice and goes on the internet to find new ideas. The childminder has effective relationships with the pre-schools that children attend and successfully shares information to promote continuity in learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is well qualified and experienced. She has a good understanding of how to promote learning for the individual children she cares for. She joins in children's play and interacts with them in a friendly and positive manner. The childminder provides a wide variety of activities to capture children's interests and engagement. This is illustrated as children and the childminder talk about what is inside boxes. Children use their small-muscle skills effectively. They untie the ribbon on the boxes and work out well how to take the lids off. This helps to develop their curiosity. They eagerly open a variety of boxes and show delight as they discover shells, bows, bells and five little plastic ducks. The childminder uses this activity well and compares the sizes of the boxes. She sings songs with the children using the musical instruments.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder supports children's emotional and physical needs well. She provides a warm and welcoming environment. Children use the accessible space well. They select toys, choose their own play and demonstrate they are comfortable in their surroundings. The childminder encourages children to care for their own environment and be helpful. For example, children take part in tidying and putting away their own toys when they have finished their play. The childminder provides a variety of activities that develop children's understanding of a healthy lifestyle. Children learn to follow good hygiene procedures, eat healthy foods and enjoy daily fresh air and exercise. Children enjoy being physically active. They learn how to blow as they play with bubbles. This excites the children who run around watching the bubbles go 'pop'.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children are progressing in their typical age ranges. They acquire a good range of skills to support their continuous learning and help them prepare for their eventual move to school. They concentrate for long periods of time and begin to show good listening and attention skills. They enjoy listening to familiar stories. They snuggle close to the childminder and anticipate what the tiger might do next as they turn the page. Children use their imagination skills well as they make suggestions as to what the tiger might like for tea. Children confidently explore their environment and thoroughly enjoy their time with the childminder.
