Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure knowledge of the procedure to follow should she have a safeguarding concern about a child. She works as part of an effective team with her co-childminder. They review policies and procedures with each other regularly. The childminder and co-childminder also attend network meetings together to ensure that their knowledge of legislation is up to date. This helps to promote consistency and a shared approach. The childminder conducts regular risk assessments in the home and for all outings. The premises are secure, and risks are minimised to ensure children play and learn in a safe environment.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides activities and resources that capture children's curiosity and enthusiasm. Children are making space shuttles in relation to the 50th anniversary of humans landing on the moon. They enthusiastically talk about the models they have made and enjoy playing with them. They count 1, 2, 3, 4 and up to 8 as their space shuttle goes up. Children have decided to follow through this activity by making asteroids. The co-childminder supports the activity and introduces the children to new vocabulary and skilfully explains the meaning of unfamiliar words. The childminder provides an effective balance of adult-led activities and opportunities for children to lead their own play. She recognises when it is more effective to step back from children's play and allow them to try out their own ideas.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder creates a homely and welcoming environment. She has a calm and caring manner and develops positive relationships with children and their families. Children are self-assured and confidently initiate conversations and interactions with others. The childminder continually praises children for their efforts and achievements, which helps to boost their confidence and self-motivation well. Children learn the importance of healthy lifestyles as the childminder embeds this into everyday routines. For example, young children learn to wash and dry their hands before eating. Meals provided are freshly prepared, healthy and nutritious. Water is available throughout the day.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are eager learners who make good progress. They acquire the skills, knowledge and attitudes to learning that prepare them well to start school. They are independent and initiate their own ideas to extend their learning. Children are sociable and know how to take turns and play harmoniously together. They develop firm friendships with others. Children are well mannered and understand what is expected of them.
