The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has detailed policies and procedures in place to ensure children's safety and care. She knows the actions required if she has any concerns about a child's welfare. She implements effective recruitment and vetting measures to ensure adults are suitable. The childminder and her assistants regularly evaluate their practice. They obtain the views of children and parents and have a clear focus on how to improve further. The childminder provides her assistants with good support, supervision and training. This has a positive impact on practice and their work with children. Parents are complimentary of the childminder and her assistants.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder joins in with children's play at appropriate times to extend and enhance their learning. For example, she uses children's conversations about different fruits to talk about the types of food that are particularly healthy. The childminder promotes children's creative and physical development well. For instance, she plans activities such as finger painting, which encourages them to express themselves by making marks and helps them to develop control of their hands. Older children skilfully use paint in water pistols to create pieces of art. Children delight in playing in the childminder's large garden, where they are free to play, investigate and learn. There are excellent opportunities for them to explore the natural world. For example, they water their plants and watch them grow.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder manages children's behaviour very well. She is caring, polite and a good role model to children. Children behave well. They play harmoniously together and follow rules. Older children help to care for their younger peers. All children are motivated and show high levels of independence. They wash their hands before eating and after using the toilet, and older children manage their own self-care needs. Children are provided with healthy choices during mealtimes and dietary requirements are adhered to. The childminder understands young children's need for rest or sleep during the day.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children acquire key skills and positive attitudes to learning that support their readiness for new challenges as they move on to school. They have strong communication skills and are confident to share their thoughts and ideas. Babies physical development is good as they practise their small- and large-muscle skills. For instance, babies enjoy filling and emptying containers with water.
