Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is aware of the signs of abuse and neglect, and of her duty to keep children safe. She is clear on how to report any concerns about a child's welfare and keeps up to date with her safeguarding knowledge. The childminder forms strong relationships with the parents, who are very complimentary about the care she provides for their children. She regularly shares information with the parents about their child's progress, so they can continue learning at home. The childminder attends regular training courses to support her professional development. She also meets with other childminding professionals, to share and discuss ideas in order to improve her practice.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder knows her children very well and has high expectations of what they can achieve. She sets out a variety of activities for the children to choose from and invites them to make choices about their play. The childminder places a strong focus on supporting the children's mathematical skills during activities. For example, she encourages counting when exploring natural resources in the garden. The childminder praises the children during activities and routines, which enhances their self-confidence and independence. For instance, she takes photographs of their achievements to share with the parents.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

The childminder prepares children well for their eventual move on to school. Children enjoy making marks on paper and exploring writing tools, which help to support their early writing skills. The children are kind and caring towards each other and show concern if someone is upset. The children have good attention skills and focus on activities for long periods, which demonstrates their curiosity to learn. For example, children explore the nature table, handling pine cones and building with logs and bark.
