p.1

This provision is good

n The childminder has successfully acted on the recommendations from the last inspection. For example, she has developed strong partnerships with other providers involved in children's learning to support good continuity and progression for all children. n Children form good relationships with the childminder. They settle readily, play together in harmony and develop a good sense of belonging and self-worth. Children are confident to ask for help when needed. Their behaviour is generally good. n The childminder knows children well and supports their learning effectively. Children make good progress in relation to their individual starting points. They are well prepared for the next stages in their learning and development, including the move on to school. n The childminder knows her strengths and targets areas for development. She attends a range of courses and updates her professional knowledge to benefit children's learning.

p.1

This provision is good

n Occasionally, the childminder does not provide enough challenges to fully extend older children's language skills and how to deepen their learning. n At times, younger children do not become fully involved during some group activities.

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

n The inspector observed the childminder and children playing. n The inspector sampled the childminder's policies, procedures and risk assessments, and children's development records. n The inspector discussed the childminder's procedures to safeguard children and her process for reflecting on her practice, including evidence of the suitability of adults living on the premises. n The inspector took into account the comments and suggestions of parents and children.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good knowledge of child protection issues and is clear about the reporting procedures. She has also established and implemented a range of comprehensive policies and procedures that underpin the safe and efficient management of her provision. The childminder undertakes regular and thorough checks on her home to help children remain safe. She checks the progress of each child and provides well-targeted support to help individuals to catch up. The childminder considers the comments and suggestions of parents, children and outside professionals. This helps her maintain a good service.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder gains relevant information from parents on what their children know and can do. She uses such information, along with her ongoing observations, to enthuse children to learn. The childminder plays with children and helps them try new activities and resources. Children use their imaginations well. For example, older children eagerly create colourful pictures using collage materials and keenly show their work to the childminder, who praises them for their good efforts. Younger children learn to roll, pat and cut play dough into different shapes. Children enjoy songs and stories. The childminder keeps parents well informed about their children's progress and daily routines. Parents know how to support their children's learning at home and beyond. They are very pleased with the good progress their children make and appreciate the helpful and caring attitude of the childminder.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder has created a welcoming learning environment where children feel safe and secure. She is a good role model for children and manages their behaviour effectively. The childminder shares her behaviour rules with parents and children so that they are clear about the expectations. Children learn to be kind and gentle towards each other, share resources fairly and take turns. They gain a good understanding of leading a healthy lifestyle. For example, children learn about good hygiene practices and enjoy healthy snacks and meals. They actively take part in a range of physical activities in the childminder's garden and at the local park. Visits into the local community help children to practise crossing roads safely and learn about different people and their communities.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children achieve well and any gaps in their learning are closing. They are content and get on well with each other. Younger children can explore resources to find out how things work. Older children can sort and match simple objects. Children are aware of the changes that happen to the weather around them.
