This provision is inadequate

n The childminder has not maintained a current and valid paediatric first-aid certificate. The lack of current training has a significant impact on the safety and well-being of children. n The childminder works with a co-childminder. Individual children do not have an assigned key person to help ensure that each child's learning and care are tailored to meet their individual needs. n The childminder does not assess children's progress or plan effectively to help them achieve success in their next stage of learning. Activities are not matched or adapted to reflect children's individual abilities and interests. Children do not make the progress of which they are capable. n The childminder does not use professional development effectively to drive improvements in her practice. n The childminder does not share enough information with parents to ensure they are informed and involved in their children's learning and development.

p.1

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is inadequate

The arrangements for safeguarding are not effective. The childminder does not hold an appropriate first-aid certificate. Since her previous first-aid certificate expired over a year ago, she has not taken action to renew training and keep her first-aid qualification up to date. This places children's safety at risk. Generally, the childminder is aware of the signs and symptoms that may indicate a child is at risk of harm and understands the procedures to report any concerns. The childminder does not use professional development effectively to increase her knowledge and improve her teaching skills and to raise children's achievements. In addition, she does not reflect accurately on her provision to identify and address all areas of weakness. The childminder helps to prepare children for their eventual move on to school. For example, she talks to them about the new experiences ahead and shares some information with their new teacher.

p.4

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is inadequate

The childminder does not have an accurate picture of what children already know and can do. Parents are not fully involved from the start in helping the childminder to identify a baseline and children's next steps in learning. The childminder does not plan activities that focus closely enough on what individual children need to learn next. Children's progress is not sufficiently reviewed to identify their strengths or any emerging concerns. However, children have access to a suitable range of age-appropriate toys that maintain their interest. Young children show curiosity as they work out how to operate a pulley on the side of a toy aeroplane. The childminder regularly communicates with parents about children's daily care routines.

p.4

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are inadequate

The childminder works with a co-childminder. Children are not assigned a key person. As a result, the childminders, parents and children do not know who has overall responsibility for the learning and care needs of individual children. Nevertheless, children develop close bonds with the childminder and her co-childminder, and approach them for support and reassurance. This demonstrates that children's emotional well- being is secure and fostered by the adults who care for them. The childminder follows the children's routines to meet their individual care needs. She is vigilant over children with dietary needs, allergies or those requiring medication, to ensure their well-being and safety. From a young age children learn to take turns, share resources and tidy away. They are confident to talk about their home life and behave well. The childminder provides regular opportunities for children to exercise and have fresh air. She takes

children into the wider community to local parks and the library, where they can socialise with their peers.

p.4

Outcomes for children are inadequate

Teaching and assessment are not strong enough to help every child reach their full potential. Children are not consistently challenged to build on their knowledge and learn new skills effectively. As a result, their progress is not good enough. However, older children are learning some key skills in readiness for school, such as being able to share books and remember repeated phrases. They are developing their independence.
