close any gaps in their development. All children make good progress typical for their age. They acquire the skills that they need for their future learning and eventual move to school. n The childminder evaluates her provision effectively. This helps her to identify and make ongoing improvements to raise outcomes for children. For example, since the last inspection, the childminder has broadened the range of resources to help promote children's sensory experiences. n Sometimes, the childminder does not make the best use of opportunities to help children learn how to use tools and equipment to best support their physical development. n Although the childminder undertakes essential training, such as safeguarding and first aid, she does not precisely focus her professional development to acquire new skills and knowledge to enhance the quality of teaching to the highest possible levels.

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of her role and responsibility in keeping children safe. She knows the procedures to follow if she has any concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder keeps her safeguarding knowledge up to date and understands the wider safeguarding issues, such as situations where children may be exposed to extreme views or behaviours. The childminder carries out regular and thorough checks of her home and equipment. This helps to provide a safe environment for children to play. The childminder establishes effective partnership working with other provisions and professionals. This ensures a consistent approach to support children's ongoing care and learning.

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder understands child development and knows the children and their individual skills and abilities well. She has a good understanding of how children learn. The childminder joins in with children's play with enthusiasm and plans exciting activities to promote their learning. This is evident as the children engage in playing with the farm scene the childminder has created. Children squeeze the mud, explore the cereals and try and make animal noises. They thoroughly enjoy playing with the different textures, swirling the mixture and making marks with their fingers. This helps to develop their imagination and small-muscle skills. The childminder helps children to develop good communication and language skills effectively. She uses good eye contact as she speaks to children and encourages them to repeat words. The childminder introduces new words as she explains what the children are doing as they play. This helps to expand

children's vocabulary and speaking skills.

p.3

The childminder is a good role model and actively promotes good manners, such as saying 'please' and 'thank you'. She promotes positive behaviour and praises children for their efforts, fostering their confidence and self-esteem. Children learn to share and take turns as they play and are learning to be kind. The childminder supports children to adopt good hygiene practices. For example, she encourages them to wash their hands before eating and after playing outside. The childminder promotes healthy lifestyles. For example, she encourages children to drink throughout the day and provides opportunities for them to enjoy fresh air and exercise on a daily basis.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children have a positive attitude towards their learning. They are eager to try new experiences and well motivated. Children show good levels of engagement in activities. For example, they enthusiastically join in with the activities on offer. Children concentrate and listen to stories well. Younger children enjoy looking at the illustrations. They recognise characters in the story, such as cows and sheep. Children snuggle close to the childminder and help to turn the pages. They giggle and point to what they see on next page. This helps to develop their early language and literacy skills.
