This provision is good

n The childminder shows high regard for working in partnership with parents to ensure children's individual needs are met effectively. She shares information with parents on a daily basis to promote consistency of care. As a result, children are making good progress with their self-care skills and developing healthy eating habits. n Children follow their own interests during play, confidently choose toys and put them away after use. They are becoming independent learners, which helps to prepare them for their move on to school. n The childminder plans a wide range of activities and outings that children of all ages can participate in together. For example, children enjoy going to the adventure playground, where they can climb and take risks in a safe environment. They regularly go to the library, which promotes their literacy skills and enjoyment of books. n Children are developing good communication and language skills as the childminder

engages them in meaningful conversations. They are well behaved and enjoy the praise given by the childminder for their efforts and achievements. This builds their self-confidence and ability to persevere with their chosen tasks. n Although the quality of teaching is good, the childminder does not use assessment information as well as she could, to plan more precisely for the next steps in children's learning.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder knows the procedures to follow if she has any concerns regarding children's welfare or if any allegations are raised against her. She understands the wider issues surrounding child protection and keeps accurate records about the children in her care, which safeguards their welfare. The childminder organises the daily routines well and supervises children effectively. She is developing good systems to evaluate her provision. For example, she seeks parents' views and monitors her own personal development to continually update her knowledge and skills.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Children are inquisitive and keen to learn. The childminder encourages them to explore and find out how things work, for example, how to open the post box or make the electronic car work. She gives them lots of praise and successfully extends their learning by talking about the size and shapes of paper that will fit in the post box and the numbers on the toy money they are using. Their mathematical skills are further extended as they count the cars with the childminder. Children enjoy playing imaginatively while dressing up as superheroes or using the doctor's set. The childminder skilfully extends children's language development during play. While building tall towers of bricks, she encourages them to talk about what they are doing, to find matching bricks, and introduces new words such as 'cracked' and 'crash'.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children's good health is promoted effectively. The childminder sits and eats with the children and encourages them to make choices of the foods they like to eat. She caters for children's individual dietary needs, for example, providing meals little and often. Children learn good hygiene habits and self-care skills during daily routines. The childminder talks about how their skin feels dry and then becomes soft as they rub in the cream together. Children's physical skills are promoted well during lots of outings to parks, where they play football and use large play equipment. Children are happy and settled as they have strong relationships with the childminder.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are making good progress from their starting points. The childminder makes accurate assessments of children's attainment and shares information regularly with parents to support children's learning at home. Children listen carefully and follow instructions well. They are actively developing the skills needed for future learning and their move on to school.
