She uses this information to plan a familiar and welcoming environment. Children settle in quickly and feel happy, safe and secure. n Partnerships with parents are strong. The childminder includes parents in completing initial assessments of their child's stage of development. She continues to closely monitor children's progress and completes clear and precise observations of their learning. The childminder uses these records to identify effective targets for the next steps in children's learning. She incorporates children's interests into good learning plans. n The childminder is skilled at recognising when to allow children time to solve problems and work things out for themselves. She provides them with the support they need to

extend their learning when required. n The childminder builds wonderful relationships with children. She is attentive, kind and sensitive towards their individual needs. Children demonstrate high levels of confidence. n Children's behaviour is good. The childminder provides a consistent approach and sets clear expectations and boundaries for children. She encourages and supports younger children to negotiate, cooperate, share and take turns from an early age. n Children's health, safety and well-being are carefully considered. The childminder completes thorough daily checks to ensure all areas of her premises are safe and secure. n Although the childminder has an effective system in place to evaluate the quality of the setting overall, she has not fully embedded procedures to raise the quality of teaching to even higher levels.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has implemented a robust safeguarding policy and procedure. She accesses regular training and completes her own research online to keep up to date with current child protection issues. The childminder confidently recognises the signs and symptoms which may indicate a child is being abused or neglected. She understands the necessary procedures to follow should she have a concern about a child's welfare. The childminder ensures all adults living or working on the premises have the necessary suitability checks in place. The childminder plans a stimulating learning environment where children are free to explore and have their own ideas. This helps to maintain children's focus and attention during play.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder supports children's learning very well. She uses her good questioning skills to extend their thinking and encourages them to help read stories. Younger children help to turn pages in books and learn how to handle these with care. Children develop their emerging communication and language skills as the childminder accentuates key words during stories. Children thoroughly enjoy the sensory experiences and learn new language as they explore various media and materials. For example, children explore different colours and textures as they play with spaghetti. They show good levels of interest and curiosity. Children are willing to have a go and try things for themselves.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder uses home communication books to share key information about a child's daily experiences and routines. This helps to ensure a good two-way flow of information and a consistent approach towards children's care and learning needs. Children benefit from the time they spend in the fresh air while playing outdoors. For example, they use ride-along vehicles which help to build the muscles and strength in their legs. Children develop good physical skills. For example, they learn how to feed themselves from a young age. Children eat finger foods and learn how to use cutlery. They know to wash their hands before mealtimes and enjoy the healthy meals and snacks prepared for them.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are making consistently good rates of progress from their starting points. They acquire the skills they need to help prepare them for their next stages of learning and eventual move to school. Children develop good mathematical skills. They learn how to predict capacity and measure volume during water play.
