Effectiveness of leadership and management requires improvement
The childminder does not hold a full current paediatric first-aid certificate and has not yet arranged to update it. However, she does understand how to keep children safe and what to do in a medical emergency and, therefore, the impact of this is minimised. Overall, the arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a sound understanding of her duty to promote children's well-being. She knows the signs of abuse and neglect and acts quickly if she has any concerns about a child's welfare or development. The childminder has attended some training but this is not yet focused on what will improve her good teaching even further. The childminder tracks children's progress and uses information about some gaps in their learning to plan for their next steps. However, occasionally, she does provide resources which support children's understanding of technology.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder works with parents to understand children's development needs when they start in the setting. She uses this information to help her make initial and accurate assessments. Parents are well informed of children's progress and achievements. The childminder plays alongside children as they explore the learning environment, inside and outdoors. She provides appropriate challenge and engages children well. For example, the childminder observes children having fun as they push the wheelbarrows across the lawn and provides an obstacle course for them to move around. This helps to develop children's strength and control. The childminder skilfully questions children to extend their knowledge and helps them solve problems as they play. Planned activities help children to understand different cultures, similarities and differences. The childminder takes opportunities to widen children's sensory experiences. For instance, at

snack time, children cut and taste a range of exotic fruit which they have learned about.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare require improvement
The weakness in leadership and management has some impact on children's welfare. Despite this, the childminder is very focused on ensuring that the environment is kept free from hazards. She risk assesses the setting and outings effectively and robust health and safety policies and procedures are evident in practice. The childminder supervises children closely, and helps them to recognise and avoid dangers. She is supportive and praises children's achievements. This helps children to feel proud and develop a positive attitude to learning. Children eat a range of healthy foods and snacks and they have a range of physical activity. They develop social skills and new friends at the groups they attend and the learning experiences they have in their local area.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress from their unique starting points. They develop independence, are eager to try new activities and display good levels of involvement. Children maintain concentration for extended periods of time in relation to their age. Children of all ages play together, learn to take turns and help each other. They talk to each other about their play, sharing ideas and experiences. Children are well prepared with the skills and knowledge they need for school or the next stage in their learning.
