The experienced childminder uses her good knowledge of child development to provide exciting and interesting activities to help to promote children's learning across all areas of learning. She carries out the progress check for children aged between two and three years and provides parents with a written summary. This helps her identify any gaps in children's learning so that interventions can be put in place to close these gaps swiftly. The childminder encourages children to engage in imaginative play that is based on first- hand experiences. For example, children play with role-play resources and confidently use a pretend telephone.
