This provision is good
n Children are made to feel very welcome in the childminder's home and they develop strong attachments with her and her assistant. This helps to build children's confidence and self-esteem. The childminder and her assistant demonstrate a clear enjoyment of their time with the children. n The childminder carefully monitors, plans and supports children's individual learning. She is fully aware of how children learn and develop. All children make good progress. n The childminder provides a very well-organised and welcoming environment for children. For example, she labels toy boxes and provides a good range of resources which follow children's interests. This helps children to play independently and motivates them to learn. n The childminder is aware of the importance of developing her knowledge and skills. She also provides good support for her assistants in their professional development and training needs are met effectively. This helps to maintain the good-quality teaching.

This provision is good
n The childminder and her assistants show a good commitment to making ongoing improvements to their practice. They regularly discuss and evaluate what they have done and make changes. Parents' views are gathered regularly and they contribute to any changes that may be made. Partnerships with parents are very good. Information they receive is detailed and regularly shared with them. n Overall, the childminder and her assistant support children's emerging language development well. However, sometimes, they use familiar versions of words, rather than teaching children the correct word. n Although the childminder and her assistant encourage children to wash their hands before they have a snack or lunch, children do not always wash their hands if they spontaneously eat again during the morning.

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
The childminder has a good knowledge about how to safeguard children. She is confident about the signs, indicators, the procedures to follow, and is aware of who to contact should she have any child protection concerns about children in her care. The childminder and her assistant supervise children well as they play and move from inside to outside. The childminder monitors children's attendance well, which helps her to keep children safe. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder completes detailed effective supervision of her assistants. They complete training, such as a recent course on communication, which they say has been extremely useful in helping them support children's communication skills further. Parents' comments are very positive about the childminder and the care she provides. They speak about how well their children have progressed since attending the setting.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder completes observations and assessments to monitor children's learning. She and her assistants know the children well and meet their individual needs well. The childminder is very aware of children's next steps in learning and creates a range of resources to support their interests and provide challenges. For example, she recognises children are developing an interest in making marks, so has provided a chalkboard with chalks on the garden wall. She has also provided a water wall with jugs and spray bottles to encourage children to explore pouring, filling and spraying to help with their mathematical skills. The childminder supports children's emerging communication and language skills well, such as using sign language with younger children.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children demonstrate they feel comfortable and safe in the childminder's home. The childminder and her assistants know the children well and are quick to recognise when they need reassurance or comfort. Children are well behaved. The adults help children to understand about sharing, taking turns and being kind to their friends. They are good role models and use regular praise and encouragement as children achieve. This helps to support children's self-esteem and confidence in their ability to complete tasks. The childminder helps children understand about the importance of healthy lifestyles. She provides them with healthy snacks and meals. She encourages children to develop independence skills, such as helping children to pour their own drinks. Children have easy access to fresh air and exercise. For example, they are able to wander freely between the outside and inside spaces.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children have good opportunities to develop their physical skills, such as when they use writing materials, plant flowers and use spray bottles with water. Children enjoy looking at books and interacting with stories, which helps to support their literacy skills. The childminder prepares children well for the next stages in their learning and the eventual move to school.
