The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is aware of the procedure to follow should she have any concerns about a child in her care. She identifies the possible signs of abuse and knows what action to take should an allegation be made against her. The childminder ensures that all policies and procedures are implemented in her practice and these, together with effective risk assessments, help children to stay safe and healthy. Children are very well supervised both in the childminder's home and as they walk to and from school. The childminder is proactive in developing her professional knowledge through training and discussions with colleagues. This has a positive impact on outcomes for children. For example, she uses effective questioning to develop children's ability to hold a conversation and she teaches younger children new words to develop their increasing vocabulary. The childminder carefully follows children's lead and supports their interests. Children respond enthusiastically and show a willingness to try things for themselves. For example, they show good determination and persistence as they write the name of an animal and then incorporate the word into their drawing.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children have secure bonds with the childminder and are very happy and settled with her. She knows them very well and they show that they feel safe in her care as they explore the environment independently. Children make choices freely during play activities and express their preferences confidently. They understand the childminder's high expectations of them. For example, young children are extremely polite and cooperative. The childminder offers consistent praise and encouragement to children, which helps to support their confidence and self-esteem.
