Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has good knowledge about the possible signs of abuse that may affect a child's welfare. She knows the correct procedures to follow if she has any concerns about a child in her care. The childminder uses self-reflection to help her continually improve her practice. For example, she plans to provide a termly review of children's current learning styles to enhance parents' understanding of their achievements. The childminder sets targets for improvements that help to make positive changes to benefit children's learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder supports children's moving and handling skills well. Toddlers squat down with steadiness to touch objects and rise to their feet without using their hands. The childminder models how to scoop water beads from one container to another and toddlers copy her actions. Young children show their early hand-to-eye coordination and concentration skills as they successfully pick up the slippery beads using their fingers and thumbs. The childminder introduces early mathematics as she lines up the water beads and counts them. She creates shapes and makes the initial sounds in words, such as 's' for snake. The childminder regularly observes children and completes detailed assessments of their current learning. Children make good progress from their starting points.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children show how they feel settled, safe and emotionally secure in the childminder's care. For example, toddlers wake happy from their morning rest and smile at the childminder. They enjoy cuddles before they quickly go off to play and explore. Children behave well. They receive frequent words of praise and encouragement, which helps to support their confidence and self-esteem. Young children sit in appropriate seating that allows them to have their feet firmly on footrests. They show good upper body control as they grasp finger food and independently bring this to their mouth. Children enjoy plenty of fresh air and exercise. They regularly walk to school and visit local parks and indoor play areas, where they have opportunities to test their physical skills further. Children adopt good health and self-care practices.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Young children have opportunities to look at books and demonstrate good small-muscle development as they independently turn the pages. They are confident to interact with visitors and enjoy a game of peekaboo. Toddlers show an interest in toys with buttons, flaps and simple mechanisms and demonstrate how they can operate them. Children develop the key skills they will need for their future education.
