They enjoy having free access to the garden to play in with their peers. n The childminder keeps children safe. For example, she reminds children to wear their hats and drink their water throughout the day to keep safe in the sun.

p.2
Effectiveness of leadership and management requires improvement
The childminder follows suitable procedures to employ assistants, checking their suitability to work with children. However, she does not implement effective procedures to monitor the quality of their teaching and to reflect on her own teaching. She does not understand how to use her training to engage children in play and support their learning. The childminder recognises the needs of children with SEND and she meets with other professionals to review their development. However, these assessments are not accurate and she does not use the information that she has gathered from professionals to offer the appropriate support needed. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder and her assistant understand the procedures that they should follow if they have concerns about the welfare of children. They are aware of the indicators that may mean that a child is at risk of harm. The childminder shares information with parents

about their child's day to work with them to manage children's routines, such as sleep times and nappy changes.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment requires improvement
The childminder and her assistant do not understand how to interact and engage children in play. The childminder observes children and makes regular assessments of their progress. However, the assessments are not consistently an accurate reflection of what children can do. Some children are assessed to be at a higher level than they are capable and this means that gaps in progress cannot be identified and acted on appropriately. The childminder does not provide the younger children with the same opportunities that older children have. For instance, the youngest children spend time in the high chair or being carried and are not able to explore their surroundings and develop their physical skills. Children have a wide range of resources to access. Children benefit from regular outings and trips in the community.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare require improvement
Children are not given clear messages about how to manage their feelings and behaviour appropriately. The childminder does not react or help children to learn how to manage their feelings when they argue over toys and snatch from each other. The childminder and her assistants meet children's care needs well. For example, they quickly recognise when children are tired or hungry. Children develop secure friendships with the other children in the setting.
p.3
Outcomes for children require improvement
Weaknesses in teaching, assessment and planning mean that children are not challenged in their learning and do not make the progress they are capable of. Children do not gain the skills that prepare them for the next stage in their learning and the eventual move on to school. Older children develop a keen interest in being creative. For instance, they are keen to use the paints to create their own pictures.
