This provision is outstanding

n The childminder demonstrates a strong commitment to ensuring every child has the best possible opportunities to meet their full potential. She understands precisely the progress children make and where they need to be moved forward. She continually targets children's next steps in learning in the high-quality interactions she has with each child. n The childminder challenges children extremely well to extend their learning. For example, when children show that they understand that the amount of people at a table has reduced as children have moved away, the childminder adds herself to the table and encourages children to consider simple mathematical calculations. n The childminder works extremely closely with her co-childminder to ensure complete consistency in their practice. Together, they evaluate meticulously to consider how they can continue to improve the outcomes for children even further. For example, they

have recently made highly effective changes to the garden area that have extended children's ability to explore and learn. n Children make excellent progress. When children start in the childminder's care with development below expectations for their age, she takes incisive action and these gaps close rapidly. Children achieve, and sometimes exceed, the typical outcomes for their ages. n Children develop high levels of independence. They master skills, such as putting on their own shoes or preparing their own fruit kebabs for snack time. Children of differing ages show high levels of confidence and are eager to try to complete tasks by themselves. n The childminder strongly engages parents in their children's learning. She fully understands children's backgrounds and the areas of learning where parents would most like to see their children progress. She works extremely closely with the staff in the other settings that children attend and ensures high levels of consistency.

Effectiveness of leadership and management is outstanding

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder demonstrates an extremely strong understanding of the procedures to follow if she is concerned about a child's welfare. She successfully ensures that this strong understanding is shared by her assistant. The childminder actively carries out research to update her knowledge. She uses this with great effect to ensure children meet the next steps in learning she has set them. For example, she learned very effective techniques to help children to manage their behaviour. She has integrated these into practice extremely well to help children concentrate better and to enhance their self-control. The childminder follows robust performance management with her assistant to ensure that these techniques are used consistently. She guides her assistant successfully on how to bring them into practice.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder demonstrates an exceptional ability to encourage children to develop and consider their own ideas and thoughts about their experiences. She uses every possible opportunity to enhance children's learning. For example, snack time becomes a rich learning experience. Children explore fruits intently and voice their views about the fruit skins. Younger children learn a range of describing words that they begin to use correctly. The childminder knows precisely what children's personal next steps are and adapts her teaching to promote these with expertise, such as when children need to feel more confident at exploring new experiences. For example, she succeeds in encouraging them to allow bugs to run over their hands and the children show delight in this.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

Children demonstrate that they feel extremely safe and secure in the childminder's care. They show high levels of confidence in their interactions with her, for example they express their own views and opinions with great self-assurance. The childminder provides excellent opportunities for children to understand the differences that exist between people. For instance, children bring in items and foods linked to their home cultures to share with their friends. However, the childminder lacks confidence in using words from the additional languages that children speak and would like to represent these more actively in her practice. She ensures children are extremely well prepared for their next stages in education, such as moving on to school. She focuses intently on ensuring children feel happy and confident about the change.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children develop an exceedingly strong understanding of how to stay healthy. When they wash fruit before they eat it, they know that they are washing germs away and link this to their rigid handwashing routines. Children show an exceptionally strong desire to find out about the world around them. For instance, they watch with fascination and use their brilliant language skills to describe what they see when they watch ants move their eggs into a hole. They listen intently to the wonderful facts the childminder shares with them and ask question to satisfy their high levels of curiosity. Children develop great literacy skills. For example, they begin to explore the sounds letters make and say the letters that words begin with.
