This provision is good
n The childminder is kind and caring. She gathers meaningful information from parents about their child's preferences, needs and interests upon entry. Children settle quickly and are happy in her care. They demonstrate secure attachments. Babies show confidence in exploring the environment independently inside and outdoors. n The childminder interacts well with children during their play. She uses questioning effectively to promote children's good communication skills. She skilfully introduces new vocabulary during play activities. For instance, she invites children to observe how the mud is 'like a swamp', when water is added. n The childminder knows the children in her care well. She carefully monitors their progress to identify the next steps in their development. n The childminder completes thorough risk assessments to ensure that the environment remains a safe place for children to play. For example, she evaluates her accident

records to ensure that hazards are quickly identified, and adjustments made to play areas to reduce future risks. n The childminder is ambitious for her provision. She regularly attends training to support her professional development and seeks the views of parents on how she may improve her practice. n Although the childminder gathers good information about children's learning and development, she does not make best use of this when planning activities and experiences. n The childminder does not fully consider how she might adapt her teaching practice during activities to meet the needs of older and younger children.

p.2
Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder updates her knowledge of safeguarding practice and procedures. She is fully aware of her responsibilities to protect children from harm. She is confident to follow procedures if she has concerns regarding a child's welfare. The childminder is organised and takes a professional approach to her work. She makes good use of her membership of professional organisations to keep abreast of any developments in childcare and legislation that may be relevant to her childminding practice.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has good relationships with parents. She regularly maintains a daily exchange of information regarding children's care and developmental needs. This helps to ensure a consistent approach in supporting children's learning. Parents comment that their children have become more confident and curious in her care, and use her ideas to support learning at home. The childminder helps children to develop their language and communication skills well. Children have good opportunities to socialise as the childminder takes them to toddler groups and story time at the local library. Children have opportunities to learn about those who might be different from themselves as the childminder talks to them about the cultures and religions of others.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children's social skills are well developed. For instance, older children demonstrate care towards babies by finding them toys and water. The childminder ensures that she adopts a consistent approach to parents when supporting children to manage their personal hygiene and, as a result, they make good progress. The childminder explains the setting rules well to the children so that they begin to understand how to keep themselves safe. For example, during the inspection, children were able to tell the inspector to be careful of the slide because it was hot. Children receive rewards for safe behaviour. For example, they are issued with a certificate following successfully participating in a fire practice.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children acquire the skills and positive attitudes needed for the next stage in their learning, including school. They concentrate for long periods of time on chosen tasks, such as imaginative play with small-world toys. Children demonstrate their mathematical knowledge as they arrange plastic balls in cake trays, counting and matching colours as they do so. They use mathematical language routinely during their play. For example, when gathering more resources, they comment on having 'another one'.
