Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure knowledge of procedures to follow should she have a safeguarding concern about a child. She is confident in local reporting procedures. She carries out regular checks of her home to help ensure that all potential hazards or risks are minimised, at all times. The childminder has a comprehensive range of documentation and policies in place, which underpin her good practice. She makes sure that all mandatory training is kept up to date. Parents are pleased with the quality of care and learning provided by the childminder. They commented that their children look forward to coming to the childminder's home.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children play confidently in a welcoming, friendly environment. The childminder provides opportunities for children to explore a good range of interesting, age-appropriate resources. She skilfully enhances children's learning as they play. She introduces children to early mathematical concepts. For example, she supports children's understanding of number by counting the cups as they get taller. Size and shapes are discussed as the cups are being stacked higher. Children enjoy sitting with the childminder as they talk about different colours. Children's early language skills are supported well. They enjoy sharing books, and demonstrate good levels of concentration when listening to stories. The childminder introduces new vocabulary and explains the meaning of unfamiliar words.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children learn the importance of healthy lifestyles as the childminder embeds this into everyday routines. For example, young children learn to wash and dry their hands before eating. Meals provided from home are freshly prepared, healthy and nutritious, which contributes to children's good health. Daily walks to the park or soft-play venues contribute to children developing an enjoyment of physical activity. Children learn about communities beyond their immediate experience, and about the different ways that people celebrate special events.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are eager learners who make good progress. They acquire the skills, knowledge and attitudes to learning that prepare them well to start school. They are independent and initiate their own ideas to extend their learning. For example, they develop high levels of self-assurance and self-esteem, and enjoy a good relationship with the childminder. They enjoy making marks and develop good levels in early literacy and numeracy. Children are encouraged to help with tidying up once they have finished with an activity. They use good manners and understand what is expected of them.
