p.1

Information about this children’s home

This home provides care and accommodation for up to three young people who have experienced disruption in their lives and have social and/or emotional difficulties. It is run by a small private partnership company. The home has been without a registered manager since October 2018.

p.1

This monitoring visit

On 8 May 2019, Ofsted undertook a full inspection. Inspectors found that the quality of the service had declined and there were concerns about the safety and welfare of young people. The home was judged inadequate and Ofsted made 13 requirements, four of which were subject to compliance notices. Nine requirements raised will be monitored at the next full inspection as they have a completion date of 19 July 2019. Ofsted undertook this inspection to monitor the provider‟s adherence to the four compliance notices.

p.1

This monitoring visit

The last inspection identified shortfalls in how staff safeguarded children against the risk of harm. The management team has achieved improvements in this area. As a result, staff better understand young people‟s risks in detail, and act to reduce them.

p.1

This monitoring visit

Impact risk assessments now better identify the suitability of any young person placed alongside other young people who are already resident at the home.

p.1

This monitoring visit

Staff now liaise closely with other agencies to help young people reduce smoking and cannabis use. In addition, staff are more proactive in monitoring young people‟s safety when using online gaming and the internet. These improvements better promote young people‟s safety and welfare.

p.1

This monitoring visit

Monitoring of the home and managerial oversight have improved. Staff now receive appropriate training and have supervision from an experienced member of staff, in line with company policy. As a result, staff develop their knowledge and skills, and Inspection report for children‟s home - monitoring visit: SC458746 2 benefit from sharing and receiving feedback about their professional development.

p.1

This monitoring visit

Records to monitor health and safety, including fire matters, now include the extended part of the home. In addition, all recommendations raised in the fire safety officer‟s report have now been met.

p.2

This monitoring visit

At the last inspection, Ofsted found shortfalls in staff recruitment records. The acting manager has remedied this to ensure that staff are safely recruited. These improved arrangements keep young people safe from unsuitable candidates having access to them.

p.2

This monitoring visit

The outcome of this monitoring inspection is that the provider has taken satisfactory action to meet the compliance notices. Ofsted will carry out a further full inspection of the home in due course.
