This provision is good
n Children make good progress. The childminder has a sound knowledge and understanding of children's level of development and what they enjoy. She makes accurate assessments of the children's learning and plans effectively for the next steps in their learning. n The childminder's garden provides children with wonderful opportunities to learn outdoors and be physically active in the fresh air. Children love to explore natural resources in the well-resourced mud kitchen. They develop their physical skills on the ride-on toys, and love to run around, balance and climb on the play equipment. n Children form close relationships with the childminder and show their affection for her. She is calm and polite when she speaks to them. She sensitively explains about using 'kind hands'. Children learn to play together well, treat others with respect and their behaviour is exceptionally good. n The childminder interacts very well with the children. She talks to them constantly,

asking questions and encouraging them to share their own thoughts and ideas. This helps to develop their communication and language skills. n Learning is enjoyable and children are excited to join in with activities led by the childminder. As part of their topic about insects, they explore the different ways insects move. Children try out different ways of moving and learn words such as 'flutter', 'slither' and 'slimy'. They enjoy hunting for bugs in the garden. n Partnerships with parents are strong. Written feedback demonstrates the high regard they have for the childminder. They say that 'she does an absolutely brilliant job in looking after their children'. They describe her as 'calm, well organised, approachable and interested in the children'. n The childminder does not fully explore ways to enrich her skills and knowledge to continually build on her good-quality teaching and care practices.

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
The childminder is well organised. She is very committed to providing a safe environment where children can play, learn and develop. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good awareness of child protection issues and the procedures to follow should she have a concern about a child in her care. Robust risk assessments cover all aspects of the childminder's house, including the garden and the animals that live there. The childminder monitors children's progress effectively to ensure that she is aware of any areas of development that need further support. Parents are kept very well informed about their children's learning and development. For example, she shares photographs of them during the day, and suggests ways that parents can support and extend their children's learning at home.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder plans activities that she knows children will enjoy. She gets to know the children very well and is aware of the good progress they are making. Children enjoy using their imagination. For example, they pretend to talk to their mummy on the play telephone. They enjoy listening to stories, which helps to develop their early literacy skills and an appreciation of books. The childminder regularly talks about letters and the sounds they represent. Children are beginning to form recognisable letters and identify the letters in their names. The childminder routinely includes mathematical language, such as counting. For example, children enjoy measuring the ingredients when they are cooking. Children have many opportunities to investigate the natural world. For example, they enjoy their trips to the nature reserve, where they take part in a 'bug hunt' day.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder gets to know the children and their families well. She works closely with parents from the start to share information about children's care routines and individual needs. The childminder is a good role model and provides children with consistent boundaries and expectations. Children learn social skills, such as sharing and taking turns. The childminder encourages children to have healthy lifestyles. They use good hygiene routines and enjoy a range of nutritious snacks and home-made meals. Children learn how they can keep themselves safe. For example, the childminder supervises them to take safe risks as they play on the equipment in the garden. Older children enjoy art and craft activities and playing with their friends. The childminder has a very good understanding of their needs after a full day in school.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress and acquire the skills they need to support the next stages in their learning. For example, they develop their mark-making skills and learn to count. Children express themselves well and respond to simple instructions confidently. They demonstrate their creativity as they use a variety of art and craft materials. For example, young children enjoy drawing outside with large chalks. They have good opportunities to socialise with other children locally. The childminder helps children to learn how to interact with others, developing their confidence and having a positive impact on making future friendships.
