This is a provision that requires improvement
n The childminder does not currently hold a full paediatric first-aid certificate. She is not fully aware of changes to procedures to keep her skills updated and effectively manage any accidents children may have while in her care. n The childminder has not fully explored how she can obtain information from parents about children's learning at home in order to support their ongoing achievements. n The childminder does not focus her professional development sufficiently on strengthening her skills and using this information to reflect on and identify where she can make further improvements to the service she provides.
p.1
It has the following strengths
n The childminder skilfully uses her knowledge of how young children learn and develop to plan activities and experiences that help them to make good progress in their learning. n Good arrangements are in place to review children's progress. This helps to identify where children may require additional help, to narrow possible gaps in their learning. n Partnerships with local schools are good. The childminder is proactive in sharing information with teachers to help provide a consistent approach to supporting children's learning. n The childminder makes good use of facilities in her local area to extend and support children's learning. Visits to places, such as the local park, are used well to develop children's awareness of the natural world.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

n extend ways for parents to share what children have been learning at home to support children's achievements to an even higher level n use professional development opportunities more effectively to enhance skills and knowledge and use this information to reflect and identify where improvements to practice can be made.
p.2
What the setting needs to do to improve further
n The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. n The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. n The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. n The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of leadership and management requires improvement
The childminder does not hold a full current paediatric first-aid certificate. She does not have the most updated information to respond quickly to any accident or emergency a child may have while in her care. The childminder accessed a course recently but was unaware this did not meet the criteria as detailed in the statutory framework. Upon recognising this, the childminder acted promptly during the inspection and booked an appropriate full and relevant course. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder keeps her knowledge of child protection updated through accessing information provided by her local safeguarding children board. She knows how to respond to any concerns she may have regarding a child's welfare. The childminder monitors her provision to ensure activities provided reflect children's interests and stage of development. The childminder gathers the views of parents to help her review aspects

of her provision. However, she does not make the most of professional development opportunities to support her to reflect and make even more improvements.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder supports young children well to develop their communication skills. She sits alongside them as they play and skilfully models new words. For instance, when children play with farm animals, she names each one and introduces new words, such as 'goat'. Children develop an awareness of numbers and counting. The childminder models how to count objects, such as the number of cows, for children to hear. The childminder gathers some information about children's learning from parents when they first start attending. However, she has not explored fully how she can continue to obtain information from parents about what children have been learning at home, to support their outcomes to an even higher level.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare require improvement
Due to weaknesses in leadership and management, the childminder is not able to fully support children's physical well-being. Despite this, she supervises them well during the day and clear procedures for keeping children safe are in place. For example, the childminder ensures her home and garden are assessed regularly for risks or hazards. Children develop strong relationships with the childminder. They confidently explore the resources she provides for them and they enjoy times when other members of the childminder's family interact with them. The childminder helps children to understand age-appropriate boundaries and expectations in her home. They respond well to her gentle reminders and their behaviour is good.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their learning. They are developing as effective communicators and are beginning to use single words and phrases to express themselves. Children sustain concentration on tasks that interest them. They explore toy farm animals with their hands and place them in and out of containers. This helps to develop the good skills they require in readiness for school.
