children's strong emotional attachments and boosts self-esteem and confidence. n Although the childminder's practice is strong, she sometimes misses opportunities to involve all children consistently. n Parents' written views show that they are very satisfied with the care and learning their children receive. Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder knows what would constitute a safeguarding concern. She has a secure understanding of her responsibilities to identify, monitor and report such concerns. Children are very safe in this secure environment. The childminder sets herself high standards for continued professional development. She engages in training and continually researches and implements teaching methods that she is enthusiastic about. For example, she uses new knowledge to enrich the children's learning environment. She provides activities and resources that promote children's interest in the world they live in.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder supports children's early writing skills well. Children are thoroughly engaged and enjoy making marks on paper with paint, crayons and felt-tip pens. Children have great fun mixing paint to make different colours. They can name complex shades they have made, such as burgundy. Children learn about the natural world. For example, they visit a moon exhibition and a bee colony, and they are learning all about the life stages of a dandelion. They are proud to show off the honey they brought back from one of their trips. The childminder does not always interact with all children equally. Therefore, she may miss some opportunities to engage the quieter children.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are well behaved, play cooperatively and show respect for one another. For example, they help one another to pour drinking water from the flask provided. The childminder has embedded routines and boundaries well, and children are familiar with, and aware of, expectations. For example, they know they need to change their footwear when they go outside to play. The childminder is an effective role model. She supports children's emotional well-being. The childminder helps children understand their feelings with the skilful use of resources, such as dolls with differing expressions.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress from their starting points. They are developing the skills they need for the next stage of their learning. Children learn to communicate well and understand about counting numbers. Their physical development is well supported. They use wheeled toys and climb up and down outdoor equipment, such as the bridge, with confidence. Children show good levels of curiosity and are motivated when exploring the activities on offer.
