Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder and her assistants have good knowledge of the possible signs and symptoms of abuse and are aware of the wider issues surrounding child protection. The childminder checks and maintains the environment daily to ensure it is safe for children to play in. The childminder establishes positive partnerships with parents and keeps them informed of their children's progress. The parents compliment the 'nurturing' environment the childminder provides. She is reflective and regularly considers ways she can improve her provision to enhance the learning opportunities available to children. She monitors the quality of teaching and the learning opportunities her assistants provide well. The childminder is professional and organised. She is proactive in ensuring she keeps up to date with any changes in legislation.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children's progress is reviewed, and regular assessments of children's learning are completed to identify and plan for their next steps in learning. There is a good two-way flow of information shared between the childminder and parents. This helps the childminder to meet children's needs efficiently. For example, the childminder collects detailed information from parents when the children first start at the setting to inform her of their developmental stage and interests. Children are provided with opportunities to develop their early writing skills. They have access to whiteboards, blackboards and paper, which they enjoy making marks on. The childminder supports children's communication skills well. She role models appropriate language and repeats key words for the children to hear. The childminder and her assistants encourage children's understanding of mathematical concepts through daily activities and discussion.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children have trusting relationships with the childminder and are confident and secure when arriving at the setting. Children enjoy healthy meals and snacks. They are taught about healthy eating and what a healthy lifestyle consists of. They regularly go out on visits around the local area and have daily access to outdoor play. They learn how to have good personal hygiene, such as washing their hands before eating. Children's independence skills are promoted, for example, they are encouraged to put their own shoes on and to help to tidy up. Children behave well. They learn to be kind to each other and take turns.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children, including those who speak English as an additional language, make good progress in their learning and development from their starting points. They are enthusiastic and inquisitive learners. Children show concentration for a sustained length of time on activities that interest them. They are independent and confident. They make their own choices about what they want to do and self-select the resources they require. Children are developing the skills they need to prepare them for school and their next stage in learning.
