Information about this children’s home
This home is owned by a private company. It is registered to provide care and accommodation for up to three young people aged eight to 17 years. The home provides short and long-term placements for young people who may have faced adverse childhood experiences, trauma and/or family breakdown. The home has been without a registered manager since December 2015. The current manager was appointed in May 2019. She has made an application to register with Ofsted.

This monitoring visit
Ofsted judged this home to be inadequate at the last three full inspections. A notice of restriction of accommodation was issued on 11 July 2018 to prevent any further young people from being admitted to the home. This was reissued twice on 3 October 2018 and on 21 December 2018. This restriction was removed on 18 March 2019. The purpose of this monitoring inspection was to review the action taken by the provider to meet six requirements raised at the monitoring inspection conducted on 29 April 2019. There are currently no young people living in the home. This means it is not possible to evaluate the impact of progress in relation to some of the requirements. Managers have implemented improved processes to support the safe recruitment of staff who work at the home. A new manager has been appointed. Senior managers can demonstrate how they have satisfied themselves that the new manager meets the regulatory requirements of the role.

Managers have implemented findings from previous inspections to update the organisation’s overall training plan, which now includes training to help staff to keep young people safe online. Increased planning and structure, along with a range of tools to support this work, aims to ensure that staff can demonstrate the impact of their work in improving young people’s outcomes. In particular, managers have implemented a process to use if young people are found to be smoking in their bedrooms. The impact of these changes in practice is not yet tested.
