This provision is good
n Children have a keen interest in mathematics and they make good progress in this area of learning. For example, they enjoy looking for and recognising shapes in the environment. The childminder makes good use of these opportunities to extend children's learning further. For instance, she asks children to count how many sides a triangle and a square have and children enjoy the challenge. n Children demonstrate good levels of confidence and self-worth. They happily share their many achievements with the childminder and she delights in offering them praise. This helps children to continue to be motivated to learn and to try their very best. n The childminder works closely with parents. She ensures that parents know what children are learning and she provides ideas for them to continue children's learning at home. For instance, she encourages parents to take home cards with ideas for them to support children's good communication and language skills further.

This provision is good
n Children demonstrate very positive behaviour. They understand turn taking and sharing and they play cooperatively together. Children respect each other's feelings and they remind each other of the rules and boundaries. n The childminder establishes good links with settings that children will eventually move to. She uses these good partnerships to prepare children emotionally for their move. For instance, during tidy-up time, the childminder plays the same song as the setting. This helps to promote a smooth transition. n The childminder does not fully utilise opportunities as they arise to encourage children to become independent in carrying out some age-appropriate tasks. n The childminder accesses mandatory training. However, she does not implement a focused programme of professional development to help to raise the quality of practice even further.

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
The childminder uses her assessments to identify any emerging gaps in children's development and she intervenes swiftly where concerns arise. She liaises with other professionals, such as speech and language therapists, if required. The childminder establishes clear rules and boundaries in her home. This helps to protect children and keep them safe. For example, children know that they can run when playing outside but not when indoors. Children repeat the explanations that the childminder provides, for example that they might bump heads and hurt themselves. This shows that they are aware of the potential risks. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder provides suitable levels of supervision for children. She has a good understanding of child protection policies and procedures, including an awareness of wider child protection issues. This enables the childminder to act appropriately if concerns arise. The childminder strives to

achieve the highest standards of care and education. She plans regular changes and improvements. Parents provide positive comments. For instance, one parent states that their child has come on 'leaps and bounds' since starting with the childminder.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children request to sing their favourite songs and they engage very well throughout. They take turns to choose a prop from a bag and they are eager to join in with the actions. For example, children lie down and pretend to go to sleep before leaping up jumping, dancing and singing. This helps to promote children's communication and language skills and supports their physical development. The childminder quickly identifies and follows children's interests. For instance, she watches children as they roll a ball and she suggests that they find some play bricks to knock down. Children enjoy the challenge. They take turns and count how many they have knocked each time and how many are left standing. This helps children to develop their social skills as well as promoting their understanding of number, simple addition and subtraction.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The friendly childminder welcomes children into her home and provides a nurturing and stimulating environment. Children are comfortable and make friendships with others easily. The childminder has good routines in place, such as washing hands before children eat. This enables children to begin to lead healthy lifestyles from a young age. Food provided is varied and healthy and this also supports children's good health. The childminder has a variety of toys and books that include a diverse range of people and cultures. Children become involved in activities that help to raise their awareness of differences further. For example, to explore different festivals, the childminder provides foods for children to try from around the world.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Boys make good progress in their early writing skills. They are interested in making marks and describe what they are drawing. All children are working within the age range that is typical for their age and they are making good progress. Children enjoy story times. They listen with interest and contribute their thoughts and predictions about what might happen next. Children are prepared for school, overall.
