as how to strengthen the muscles in children's hands in preparation for early writing.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder undertakes extremely focused observations and assessments of children's achievements and uses these to carefully plan for their individual learning needs. She talks with ease about her plans for children's next steps and the learning purpose of the activities she provides. The childminder is actively involved in children's play and provides very effective interaction. For example, she encourages children to experiment with tweezers to transfer pom-poms from one container to another. Children develop their small-muscle skills and then the childminder introduces more challenge, such as sorting and counting. Another activity further extends children's hand-to-eye coordination as they thread cereal hoops onto pipe cleaners to make bird feeders.

For example, they have made a 'red sauce' for pasta, containing tomatoes, red onions and red apples. The childminder places a high importance on developing children's emotional security and confidence. For instance, she provides name labels in the hall to help children feel a sense of belonging and praises children regularly for their achievements. It is clear that the childminder has developed a lovely bond with the children. She is an excellent role model and encourages positive behaviour. This has evidently been instilled into the children as they willingly work together to support each other during activities. For example, a group of children sit and complete a jigsaw puzzle together, showing great teamwork.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children are highly motivated learners who persevere during activities. Even the youngest children have a strong 'can-do' attitude and want to be as independent as they can. The childminder does all she can to help children become ready for the next stage in their learning and for starting school. Children are inquisitive, extremely polite and thoroughly enjoy their time with the childminder.
