Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has appropriate knowledge of the signs and symptoms that would cause concern about a child's welfare and how to take appropriate action. The childminder regularly reflects on and evaluates her practice and seeks the views of parents to try and identify ways to improve on this further. The childminder monitors the work of her assistant and provides effective support and supervision in order to enhance the quality of teaching. She identifies training programmes that reflect children's needs and interests and that have a positive impact on children's learning. The childminder consults parents if she has any concerns about their children's development.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder gathers information from parents when children first start and uses this to build on what children can already do. Children play confidently in a welcoming, friendly environment. They are engaged and interested in the activities on offer. The childminder and her assistant provide opportunities for children to explore a good range of interesting, age-appropriate resources. They have a secure understanding of children's varying stages of development and what they can achieve. The childminder and her assistant promote children's communication and language skills well. For example, they asked them questions as they mixed colours and children were confident to say what they thought would happen next. Children choose songs and participate enthusiastically in action rhymes. They listen well and follow instructions, for example, making different animal sounds while rowing the boat.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder encourages children to develop good hygiene routines and begin to manage their personal care. For instance, children learn to wash and dry their hands before eating. Children enjoy sociable mealtimes. They sit together and interact well with their peers. The childminder uses effective methods to promote healthy lifestyles, and she encourages parents to provide healthy meals. Children have opportunities to have fresh air and exercise daily, which contributes to their good health. Children enjoy regular outings to the park and walks within the local community.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points and are quickly developing the skills needed for the next stage in their learning and in readiness for school. They are independent and initiate their own ideas to extend their learning. Children who speak English as an additional language are developing a good level of English. They develop high levels of self-assurance and self-esteem and enjoy good relationships with the childminder, her assistant and their peers. Children are encouraged to help with tidying up once they have finished with an activity. They have good manners and understand what is expected of them.
