Effectiveness of leadership and management is outstanding

The childminder has tremendous passion to provide the best opportunities for children. She constantly evaluates the care and education she provides, and makes excellent use of a wealth of training opportunities to continually enhance her skills and knowledge. For example, she has incisively identified there is scope to enhance even further the opportunities children have to explore the concept of time and money. p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder meticulously prepares the environment indoors and outdoors to offer children a wealth of learning experiences matched to their interests and learning needs. Activities planned have a clear learning focus and inspire children to learn. For example, children show a real fascination in the natural world and living things as they learn about the life cycles of insects, animals and plants. The childminder and her assistants skilfully incorporate mathematical concepts during children's play. For example, children consider the concept of speed as they learn how to move the ball and then water along the guttering provided. The childminder places a high focus on incorporating literacy concepts through the daily routine and activities. For example, children confidently talk about the sounds they hear and know how to link sounds to letters of the alphabet.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The childminder places a high focus on keeping children safe. She makes excellent use of national days and guidance linked to promoting safety. For example, the childminder confidently and sensitively teaches children about respecting their own and others' bodies. Children behave exceedingly well and develop exceptional independence skills. They show high levels of negotiation skills as they play together and have firm relationships with each other. The childminder provides excellent direction and guidance to parents to promote children's health and development. For example, the childminder promotes the importance of good oral hygiene and how to minimise the use of dummies.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

All children make consistently high rates of progress and are exceptionally well prepared for school. They excel in all areas of learning and show high levels of concentration during all activities. For example, during a painting activity children are curious as they consider colour, patterns and symmetry. They confidently handle the butterflies they release, use words such as 'cocoon', and recall how they have cared for them. Children show a comprehensive understanding of road safety as they use the pretend traffic lights and zebra crossing with their wheeled toys. They thoroughly enjoy making marks as they play and the most able children can write their names and learn to read simple words.
