p.2
Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good knowledge of safeguarding practice and understands the systems to follow if there are concerns about a child's welfare. She shares her policies and procedures with parents to help protect children. The childminder maintains a good level of hygiene in her home and makes regular checks on resources to keep children safe. She works well with outside professionals to share good practice. The childminder has established good links with providers to help ensure good continuity and progression to children's learning when time comes for them to move on. She considers the views and comments of parents, children and others and acts on them to maintain a good service.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Since the previous inspection, the childminder has introduced an assessment system to track the progress of each child effectively. For example, she gathers relevant information from parents about their children's starting points and their interests. She uses this information with her regular observations to plan engaging learning experiences that capture children's interests. The childminder is sensitive to the needs of children and shows them how to handle resources with care. Children keenly explore resources to find out how things work. For example, younger children love to play with role play cars and car park. Older children learn to paint with custard sauce and to observe its colour and texture.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder talks to children in a calm manner and comforts them when they are upset or tired. She supports their social and emotional skills effectively. Children learn to share toys fairly, listen carefully and respond well to requests. Their behaviour is generally good. The childminder helps children to adopt healthy living. For example, children know they need to drink water to keep themselves hydrated and enjoy eating healthy snacks. Younger children are learning to feed themselves with little support. Children have access to the childminder's garden. The childminder also takes children to the local park and on outings. This helps children to develop their physical skills, to socialise with others and to be familiar with the local community.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children achieve well and any gaps in their learning are closing. Younger children learn to play safely. Children love to explore musical instruments and to listen to the sounds they make. Older children learn to count and be familiar with shapes and sizes of objects around them. Children are aware of the changes that happen to the weather around them. They have access to writing resources to support their early writing skills.
