For instance, she has expanded the range of resources to support children's physical development outdoors, as a way of promoting their enjoyment of healthy lifestyles. n The childminder provides clear boundaries for behaviour, to help children understand what they should or should not do. Children behave well and are kind and friendly towards others. For example, they take turns and cooperate with each other during games and activities. n Children enjoy being active and relish the opportunities to play outside in the childminder's garden each day. They develop their large-muscle movements as they climb, bounce, swing and balance on the large play equipment. n The childminder develops good links with staff at the schools that children attend. Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder attends regular training to help maintain a good knowledge of a wide range of safeguarding issues. She has a clear understanding of how to identify signs that a child is at risk of harm and the correct procedure to follow to help assure their welfare. The childminder maintains good standards of safety in her home. She teaches children how to manage potential risks, for example when crossing the road on the way home from school or using the trampoline in the garden. This helps them learn how to keep themselves safe. The childminder works effectively in partnership with parents. For instance, she gathers useful information about children when they join her provision, to help her cater for their interests and meet their care needs.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides children with a good range of resources and activities each day, to help keep them consistently interested and engaged. She listens to children and supports their learning well. For instance, she shows children how to measure ingredients when cooking and encourages them to count how many skittles they have knocked over during a bowling game. This helps to promote their mathematical development. Children are confident to make choices about what they wish to play with. They are imaginative and freely express their ideas through activities such as role play, drawing and painting. Children show positive attitudes to learning and they enjoy developing new skills and taking on challenges, such as learning how to use stencils or climbing to the top of the climbing frame.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder's home is safe and welcoming. Children develop secure bonds with the childminder, her family and each other, which nurtures their confidence and well-being very effectively. They appear happy and well settled in her care. Children are independent and manage their own personal care needs well. They are helpful and willingly assist with tasks such as tidying away toys after play. Children understand the need for good hygiene routines, such as washing their hands before eating and after using the toilet. The childminder values children's individuality and helps them to learn about and respect differences between themselves and others. For instance, she plans activities to reflect various cultural and religious events which occur throughout the year.
