Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of child protection issues. She is confident with the procedure to follow should she have concerns about children's welfare. The childminder maintains a safe environment and supervises children well. The childminder evaluates her practice regularly and identifies further ways to build on her good practice. She is proactive and regularly meets with other childminders to discuss practice and share ideas. She attends further training and shares this with her assistant. This helps to develop her current knowledge and skills.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good understanding of each child's individual learning needs. She uses her observations and assessments effectively to plan for children's next steps in learning. The childminder actively engages with children's play. For example, she captures children's interest and curiosity while attempting to find hidden figures in foam. She offers encouragement and reassurance to children who are less confident to join in. This helps to maintain their interest and extend their learning. Children develop their physical skills. They concentrate as they use tweezers to pick up small items. They use spoons to fill and empty containers with foam. Children develop early mathematical skills. They count as they build towers and are beginning to recognise different shapes.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder takes children to a variety of community groups. This helps children develop their social skills and confidence in larger groups. The children benefit from daily fresh air and exercise, for instance, on their walk to school or during trips to feed the ducks. Children are offered healthy and nutritious meals and snacks. Children eagerly help with everyday tasks, such as tidying up when an activity has finished. The childminder follows young children's individual routines. She gathers regular updates from parents and incorporates this into the daily routine.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children are making good progress in all areas of learning. They are developing skills that help prepare them for their future learning, including moving on to school. Children develop their independence skills. They confidently fetch their own shoes and coats before going on outings. They learn to wash their hands before meal and snack times. Children are motivated to learn and readily make choices in their play. They confidently choose which story they would like the childminder to read.
