Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has attended up-to-date safeguarding training and has a good understanding of the signs and symptoms that could indicate that a child is at risk of harm. She knows what to do and who to contact if she has a concern about a child's safety or welfare. The childminder works well with parents and shares information well to ensure a consistent approach to their learning. Since the last inspection the childminder has improved processes for obtaining and recording children's medical information. She has also implemented a process to complete the required progress check for children aged between two and three years.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder offers a range of enjoyable creative activities that motivate children to take part. She teaches children perseverance as they learn to take the pen lids on and off. Children listen carefully to instructions and the childminder gives clear explanations of the steps to take. There is a variety of resources and children are encouraged to choose independently. The childminder praises the children's achievements and helps to build on their developing self-confidence. The childminder encourages children's mathematical development well. For example, children learn to identify and name colours and begin to learn to count. The childminder teaches children effective communication and language skills. For example, she extends vocabulary when discussing birds such as an owl and a kingfisher.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder encourages children to develop their independence. For example, children help tidy up after activities, and put toys away after playing with them. The childminder is aware of children's dietary needs and promotes good hygiene. She encourages children to develop healthy eating habits and children choose from a variety of healthy snacks, such as bananas, strawberries and grapes. The childminder teaches children to take turns and share, and they learn good manners. The childminder supports children well to understand how to keep safe and manage risk. For example, children know how to always hold the childminder's hand when crossing a road. Children develop warm and secure attachments to the childminder.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children learn how things work, for instance, when they use toys that react when buttons are pressed. Children's physical abilities develop well, for example, when they play on ride-on toys and play on the slide. They develop good social and practical skills, for instance, when they visit the park, go on walks and visit the allotment and they enjoy visits from other childminders. Children begin to learn mathematical language, such as 'lots' and 'more'. They learn to be self-sufficient from an early age and manage small tasks on their own. They generally make good progress in their learning from their starting points.
