Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good knowledge and understanding of her role and responsibilities to protect children and to act promptly on concerns about a child's welfare. She risk assesses the environments used by the children and takes steps to minimise possible hazards. Children learn about keeping themselves safe. For example, on outings, they talk about road safety and stranger danger. The childminder establishes links with other settings that children attend, to share information and promote consistency in their care and learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder closely assesses and monitors children's good progress to help her quickly identify and close any gaps in their learning. Children's speech and language development is supported well. For example, they copy and repeat words that the childminder uses to build on their vocabulary. The childminder encourages children to be independent as they choose activities and resources. She supports children's ideas and extends their experiences as they play. For instance, she encourages them to squeeze sand and pick up objects with tweezers, to help strengthen the muscles in their hands. Children respond to the childminder's playful interactions with giggles and smiles.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a welcoming and homely environment. Children have good opportunities to learn about the importance of leading healthy lifestyles. For example, they develop their physical skills when they ride scooters, jump and climb. The childminder encourages children to be independent, such as tidying away their toys and dressing themselves. They enjoy a wider range of activities and learn about living things, for instance, at the park and farm. The childminder provides a variety of resources and experiences to help children learn about diversity.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities, make good progress from their starting points. They enjoy looking at books and exploring letters and sounds. Children have plenty of opportunities to build on their good mathematical skills. For example, during a sand activity, they confidently count, and name colours and shapes. They learn about measurement as they fill and empty containers, and sort objects by size. Children are inquisitive and enjoy finding out how things work. For instance, as they operate light-up toys and toy cameras. Children are well prepared for the next stage in their learning, such as transfer to nursery or school.
