n The childminder extends children's language through her positive teaching. For example, she provides ongoing narration, asks open questions, suggests new words and provides enough time for children to think and respond. Children become confident communicators. n The childminder is warm and nurturing. She provides children with reassurance, encouragement and praise as they play. Children are emotionally secure, confident and comfortable in the childminder's company. n The childminder communicates effectively with parents and recognises the importance of working in partnerships with parents, to support their child's needs. She shares daily information about activities children enjoy. n The childminder does not make the most of opportunities to help children learn how to manage their own safety. n The childminder does not consistently seek detailed information from parents about children's learning and development when they first start at the setting to help her

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is able to recognise the potential signs of abuse. She knows the procedure to follow should any concern arise regarding children's safety or welfare. Overall, the childminder reflects on and evaluates her practice well. She seeks the views of parents to identify ways to help make further improvements. She makes sure that all mandatory training is kept up to date. Partnerships with parents are positive. The childminder keeps parents informed of their child progress. She has daily discussions and shares their child's learning journal with them.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children play confidently in a welcoming, friendly environment. The childminder provides opportunities for children to explore a good range of interesting, age-appropriate resources. She sensitively joins in children's play and is a positive role model. The childminder promotes children's communication skills well. For example, children playing with dough discuss texture, colour and shape. The childminder takes every opportunity to develop children's early mathematical skills. An example of this is, when counting dough in a bowl, she asked, 'If we add another one in, how many?' She listens carefully and give them time to talk.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder encourages children to develop good hygiene routines and begin to manage their personal care. For example, young children learn to wash and dry their hands before eating. Meals are freshly prepared, healthy and nutritious, contributing to children's good health. Children have regular opportunities for outdoor play. They enjoy exercise and develop physical skills and coordination while playing in the large garden. For example, they paint with water and explore sand using different tools, and use them to make their own creations. Children learn about communities beyond their immediate experience and about the different ways that people celebrate special events.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are eager learners who make good progress. They acquire the skills, knowledge and attitudes to learning that prepare them well to start school. They are independent and initiate their own ideas to extend their learning. For example, they develop high levels of self-assurance and self-esteem and enjoy a good relationship with the childminder. Children enjoy making marks and develop good levels in early literacy and numeracy. Children are encouraged to help with tidying up once they have finished with an activity. They use good manners and understand what is expected of them.
