This provision is good

n Children develop very close bonds with the childminder. They are confident, happy and settled in the friendly and homely environment. n All children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities, enjoy their learning. They make good progress. The childminder makes observations and knows the children well. She gathers important information from parents to help plan effectively for children's individual development. n The childminder has a strong knowledge of how to adapt the language she uses and communication techniques, to enable children to develop good communication skills. For example, she listens carefully to what children say and interprets their gestures skilfully. n Robust self-evaluation supports the childminder's vision to provide the best care she can for children. She focuses improvements and training to enhance outcomes for children and raise the quality of teaching to a higher level.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder understands well how to identify if a child's welfare is at risk. She understands the procedures she should follow in the event of a concern. The childminder supervises all children effectively, including during walks and outings in the local community. She knows the importance of never leaving children unsupervised or in the care of any unauthorised adults. The childminder records and closely monitors children's attendance. Since registration, she has developed the learning environment for children. This has had a positive impact on promoting children's ability to access a wider range of resources. The childminder uses questionnaires to seek the views of parents. Parents give positive comments about the childminder and her provision. Comments include, 'She is amazing with my daughter, very caring and trustworthy'.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The qualified and experienced childminder provides a welcoming and stimulating environment. Children have access to a range of resources and make independent choices as they play. The childminder uses good teaching skills to support children's development. For example, she reads stories with enthusiasm and a lot of expression. She questions the children, who show a great enjoyment of the stories, to test their understanding. The childminder encourages and praises children warmly when they tackle challenges, for example attempting to fix a broken toy. This helps to support the development of children's self-confidence. The childminder closely monitors and tracks children's individual progress. This helps her to identify children's individual interests and what they need to learn next. For example, she notices that children like to explore toy cars. With this in mind, she provides a tray of resources with paints and vehicles.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder ensures that children feel very welcome in her home. She is a good role model and children learn to be kind and considerate towards each other. Younger children are very interested in older children's play, and older children welcome and accommodate this interest. The childminder meets children's care needs very effectively. She understands the importance of fresh air, exercise, nutritious food and good-quality rest to children's good health. She organises the day so that children have access to all of these and are learning to appreciate the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are developing effective skills they need to aid their future learning and the eventual move to school. Children relish opportunities to play outside and exercise. Younger children are inquisitive and keen to explore. Children concentrate well and persevere as they play. The childminder supports older children to prepare for moving on to school. For example, she teaches them to understand letter sounds and they are able to write their full names.
