It has the following strengths

p.2
Effectiveness of leadership and management requires improvement
The childminder has completed mandatory training, such as paediatric first aid. However, she has not taken any opportunities for further training and professional development to improve the quality of her teaching. Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has kept her safeguarding training up to date and continually refreshes her knowledge in this area. She has a clear understanding of the signs and symptoms of possible child abuse and knows how to identify and report any concerns. This helps to keep children safe from harm.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment requires improvement
The childminder has a basic understanding of how to promote children's learning and development as they play. She generally follows children's interests. However, the childminder is not making accurate observations and assessments of children's development. She does not consistently use what she knows about children to plan activities that provide appropriate challenge and help them to make the best possible progress. For example, children are not able to maintain their attention within activities as the childminder does not focus her support where they need it most. The childminder does not gather detailed information from parents about the children's learning on entry to plan for their development from the outset. She does not have effective systems in place to share information consistently with parents about the progress children make to ensure there is continuity of support. The childminder provides a welcoming environment

and children have opportunities to choose what they want to play with. Generally, the childminder interacts well with the children and introduces them to new vocabulary.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare require improvement
Due to weaknesses in the childminder's teaching, there are occasions when children lose interest in the resources provided and struggle to become fully engaged in learning. The childminder promotes children's health and welfare in a range of ways. She provides opportunities for exercise and fresh air as children play safely in the well-resourced garden. The childminder promotes good manners and being kind. Children learn about health and hygiene as they wash their hands when they come in from outside and before eating. Children learn to behave well. They follow the childminder's instructions and keenly help with small tasks, such as collecting the post when they hear it arrive.
p.3
Outcomes for children require improvement
Not all children make the best possible progress due to the weaknesses in teaching. Children do not show good enough levels of concentration in their play. That said, children are developing some of the skills they need in preparation for school. Children develop their communication and language skills well. They listen to the childminder and express their wants and needs in a range of ways. Younger children sing songs and enjoy stories. Older children repeat familiar phrases in popular tales and predict what is coming next. Children count by rote as they build towers with bricks.
