p.1

This provision is good

n The childminder has successfully addressed the weakness identified at her previous inspection. She now maintains an accurate attendance register. n Children are happy and their behaviour is good. The childminder provides gentle reminders about her behaviour expectations and, overall, children share and take turns well. n Children respond well to the childminder's calm and supportive interactions with them as they play. This helps children to build confidence and self-esteem. n The childminder knows children well and plans activities effectively to meet their individual learning needs. This becomes evident when she she models language well to support children's speech development. n Children are eager to take part in activities and make good progress from their starting points. n Children have good opportunities to learn about the natural world. For instance, they plant and tend to sunflowers in the childminder's garden.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder understands her responsibilities to safeguard children. She knows what to do if she has any concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder checks her premises thoroughly to help make sure the environment is safe and secure for children. She attends regular training to keep her knowledge up to date. For example, she is currently undertaking a teaching degree to further enhance her skills. This helps to support continuous improvement in the quality of her teaching. The childminder monitors children's progress effectively. She takes suitable action to close any gaps in their learning. Parents express high levels of satisfaction with the childminder's service. The childminder works in good partnership with them to support children's development and well-being. She takes account of their views to reflect on and improve the quality of her provision.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Children take part in a variety of interesting activities to support their learning. They particularly like to play in the childminder's garden, where they enjoy riding on push tricycles and scooters, and role play in the outdoor playhouse. The childminder supports their learning well through sensitive and considered interventions. For example, she encourages children to sort the plates and beakers into sets. This helps to support their mathematical development effectively. Children open their eyes wide in awe as they watch the toy cars and trucks zoom down a piece of guttering. The childminder extends their learning to help develop their thinking skills. For instance, she asks them to think about why the vehicles move more slowly when the guttering is at a lower angle.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children settle well in the childminder's care. They readily go to her for reassurance and cuddles when needed and enjoy exploring the toys and resources. The childminder supports their independence well, overall. She encourages them to make choices in their play. For example, she has affixed picture labels to her store cupboard so that young children know what is available to choose from. Children learn about how to lead a healthy lifestyle during cooking activities, such as cutting shapes out of nutritious vegetables. They have regular opportunities to play in the fresh air in the childminder's attractive garden and on visits to the local park, to support their good health.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children listen to instructions well. They make good progress in their communication and social skills in preparation for their next steps and eventual move to school. They learn to put on their shoes for outdoor play and feed themselves independently. They are beginning to develop their mathematical understanding and love listening to stories.
