p.2
Effectiveness of leadership and management is inadequate
Safeguarding is ineffective. The childminder does not identify weaknesses in her setting. She has failed to notify Ofsted about changes to adults working on the premises. This means that Ofsted is unable to complete the necessary checks to determine that those working with children are suitable. This compromises children's safety. The childminder does not demonstrate a secure understanding of local safeguarding procedures, including sharing information with other professionals and how to address concerns regarding children's welfare. In addition, she does not provide her assistants with prompt training to enable them to develop a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities.
p.4
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment requires improvement
The childminder and her assistants do not provide children with appropriate levels of challenge during play. For example, young children are provided with games that are not age-appropriate. Despite the childminder completing observations and assessments of children's learning, teaching is not yet good enough. This does not help children to make the best possible progress. However, children have a suitable range of resources available to them. Children participate in physical activities. The childminder and her assistants take children on outings, including trips to the park and to the beach. Furthermore, children participate in messy play activity sessions where they can learn to develop their creative skills. The childminder meets with her assistants to identify what children need to learn next and shares this information with parents. Parents are provided with opportunities to contribute to their children's learning.
p.4
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are inadequate
Due to significant weaknesses regarding the safety of the premises and lack of safeguarding knowledge, children's needs are not met. The childminder does not seek written consent from parents before administering medication to children. This compromises children's health and well-being. The childminder does not identify areas of improvement within her setting. She does not provide a safe and secure environment for children. The childminder does not ensure her hazards in her home are minimised to help reduce risks to children. She does not have safe emergency evacuation procedures in place. For example, the childminder has not moved clutter and building debris from outside of her property. She does not ensure that fire exits are free from obstruction. In addition, trip hazards have not been reduced.
p.4
Outcomes for children require improvement
Due to safety issues in the setting, children do not have space to move freely and safely. Despite this, children demonstrate independence and help out with small tasks. They communicate well with others and show an interest in make-believe play. Children dress up and pretend to make dinner for one another in the role-play kitchen. They make suitable progress and are equipped with the necessary skills for their eventual move to school.
