This provision is good

n The childminder provides children with a calm and welcoming environment. She develops strong relationships with the children in her care. n Children demonstrate high levels of independence. They are keen to complete tasks for themselves. For instance, younger children drink carefully and unaided from cups without lids. n The childminder knows the children she cares for well and skilfully builds on their previous learning. She uses their interests to provide them with an interesting range of play opportunities. n The childminder monitors the progress children make well. She accurately identifies their initial starting points and sets them appropriate next steps in their learning. Children are well prepared for the next stage in their learning, such as when they move on to school. n The childminder holds children's safety in the highest regard. She carefully monitors the environment indoors and outdoors throughout the day, removing potential hazards,

What the setting needs to do to improve further

n The inspector had a tour of the indoor and outdoor areas of the premises used for childminding. n The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. n The inspector observed the quality of the childminder's teaching. She considered the impact of this on children's learning. n The inspector looked at letters from parents. She took their views into consideration. n The inspector viewed a range of documentation, including policies and children's learning records.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is aware of how to report any concerns regarding children's welfare to the relevant authorities. The childminder completes training which helps her expand her professional knowledge further. She liaises with other professionals. For example, she holds daily discussions with staff at other settings children attend. This helps her to provide children with a strong level of care. Parents are very happy with the care that the childminder provides. The childminder reflects on her provision and considers ways that she can improve the service that she offers even further. She builds on children's opportunities to develop their social skills. For example, she takes them to local playgroups where they can interact with a wider group of children.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder makes the most of every learning opportunity for the children. For example, she talks to children about what is happening when using a paper towel to mop up water. Children excitedly watch as the water runs across the table. They talk to the childminder about what they can see. The childminder uses relevant vocabulary to build on their understanding of what is happening. The childminder supports children's early understanding of numbers well. For instance, they count the number of stairs together as they come downstairs after washing their hands. The childminder skilfully differentiates activities for children's individual stages of learning. For example, she uses pasta to support babies' interest in creating sounds. Older children use the pasta to thread onto pipe cleaners. This helps them to develop their hand-to-eye coordination.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder acts as a positive role model for the children and children behave well. The childminder teaches the youngest children to share and be kind to one another. Babies turn to her for comfort and reassurance. They grow in confidence and begin to explore the environment independently. Children serve themselves confidently at snack time. For instance, they spoon houmous out of the pot and onto a plate for themselves. Children follow the childminder's instructions well. The childminder takes children on outings and to local toddler groups. This helps them to develop their social skills.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children develop confidently and remain motivated as they gain a range of useful skills. They make good progress from their individual starting points. Children learn about the world around them and how to care for nature. For example, they water the plants in the garden to help them grow. They learn to use tools appropriately for tasks. For example, they use rolling pins to roll out the play dough. Children use their imaginations as they play, such as when they pretend to feed the baby dolls.
