She does not plan effective learning activities to target any gaps in children's development. n The childminder does not provide resources and activities to match children's learning needs. The childminder's strategies to support children's communication skills are not effective. n The childminder does not encourage children to try to solve problems when they are involved in activities. p.2
Effectiveness of leadership and management is inadequate
Safeguarding is not effective. The childminder does not understand how to protect children from harm. She does not have an appropriate knowledge of wider safeguarding issues which could affect children and their families. For example, the childminder is unaware of the 'Prevent' duty guidance. She does not understand that she must be alert to signs that a child may be at risk of being exposed to extreme ideas. The childminder is not aware of the correct action to take should an allegation of harm be made against her. This means that she does not protect children's safety. The childminder does not review her practice or identify any areas of weakness. As a result, she does not identify any professional development opportunities to improve outcomes for children. The childminder shares information daily with parents about their children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is inadequate
The childminder does not offer children enough challenge in their play. For example, she provides resources which are more appropriate for younger children. She does not provide resources which would encourage older children to develop their writing and mathematical skills. The childminder does not allow children the time to reply to questions she asks. For example, when reading a book, the childminder responds to her own questions before allowing children time to answer. This means that children have limited opportunities to demonstrate their understanding and develop their spoken language skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are inadequate
The childminder does not promote children's welfare effectively as she does not understand her responsibilities to safeguard children. She does not ensure that children are emotionally prepared for the next stage in their learning. The childminder does not encourage children to become self-confident or independent. For example, the childminder completes simple tasks for children instead of allowing them to try for themselves. The childminder supports children to follow appropriate hygiene routines. For example, she supervises children while they wash their hands before eating. She praises the children as they rub their hands together. She talks to the children about checking their hands to ensure they are free of soap. Children behave well in the childminder's care.
p.3
Outcomes for children are inadequate
Children are not making typical progress in their development. Children are not supported to improve their communication skills. This means that children are not developing an appropriate understanding of spoken language. Children do not make enough progress in their personal development. As a result, children are not developing the skills they will need as independent learners. Children are not well prepared for school. Children demonstrate that they are developing some fine-motor skills as they handle tools and equipment during a baking activity.
