p.2
Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder knows what to do if she has a concern about a child in her care. She has up-to-date knowledge of child protection legislation and understands her responsibilities to keep children safe from harm. The childminder continues to develop her own professional knowledge. For example, she reads childcare articles, attends training and meets up with other childminders to share good practice. The childminder reflects well on the provision to help her to identify areas for improvement. For example, she has plans to add a sensory area to her garden to promote social interaction and language development. The childminder has developed good links with other professionals and early years settings. This helps with the support for children when the time comes for them to move on to school.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder helps children to develop effective communication and language skills. She uses good eye contact as she speaks to younger children and encourages them to repeat words to help their speaking skills. She listens to what older children have to say and introduces new words to help to increase their vocabulary. The childminder knows the children well and responds to their interests to engage them in activities. For example, during an activity where children use their senses to explore materials, the childminder models a wealth of mathematical language. She counts how many scoops are needed to fill the pot with cereal and talks about needing 'more' to make it 'full'. Children start to copy and develop a basic understanding of 'more' and 'not enough'.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder supports children's emotional and physical needs well. Children confidently move around the childminder's home. They select toys, choose their own play and demonstrate that they are comfortable in their surroundings. The childminder regularly takes children to different groups in the community and links up with other childminders. Children develop good personal and social skills as they learn how to socialise and make new friends. The childminder encourages children to be helpful. Children take part in tidying and putting away their own toys when they have finished their play.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children develop essential skills that will support their future learning and eventual move to school. Children develop good social skills and play very well together. They are curious and inquisitive learners. For instance, children are keen to take part in painting activities. They enjoy thinking, making predictions and testing out their ideas, such as when they mix different colours together.
