This provision is good
n The childminder provides children with a calm, homely and stimulating environment. Children are very happy, settled and confident in her care. They thoroughly enjoy the time they spend in her setting. Children show their obvious affection for the childminder and form strong emotional attachments to her. n The highly qualified childminder regularly observes children and makes precise assessments of their learning. She monitors their development each term and uses this information well to promote ongoing learning and identify areas where children's progress is less than expected. n The childminder provides a range of resources and experiences that help children to understand the differences between themselves and other people. Children learn about the countries of the world and each other's different cultures. n The childminder supports children's mathematical development well. Children learn to count, identify different shapes, understand 'heavy' and 'light', and understand 'more'

and 'less'. The childminder also helps children to understand symmetry. For example, she uses the spots on ladybirds to help them understand that they have the same number and pattern of spots on each side of their body. n The childminder is a good role model for children. She provides them with sensitive guidance to help them understand what is expected. Children are caring and kind towards others. Their behaviour is good. n The childminder does not consistently gather detailed information from parents about what their children already know and can do when they first start to attend. n Occasionally, the childminder is over-enthusiastic with her questioning during activities and, as a result, children do not have time to fully respond.

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder keeps her knowledge of child protection up to date and understands how to keep children safe from harm. She knows what to do if she has concerns about children's welfare. She implements a range of policies and procedures to support her good practice. The childminder carries out risk assessments in her home and garden and takes the necessary action to minimise risks. The childminder develops good partnerships with parents, overall. She regularly shares information with them about their children's learning and gives them ideas to help support learning at home. Parents are pleased with the progress their children make in the childminder's care and describe how 'happy and content' they are. The childminder accesses training, carries out independent research on early years topics and discusses practice with other colleagues. This helps her to enhance her knowledge and supports her good teaching.
p.3
Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
The childminder accurately evaluates the strengths of her provision and identifies areas for improvement to consistently maintain her good practice.
p.3

The childminder provides plenty of time for children to play and explore. Children show high levels of concentration during activities. They thoroughly enjoy bathing dolls in the bowl, drying the dolls and dressing them. The childminder supports children's understanding of cause and effect well. She helps them to notice how the water changes when bubble bath is added and how the dry face cloths soak up the water. The childminder supports children's early literacy development well and reads stories each day. She also sings songs rhythmically and introduces different words that begin with the same letter sound to help focus their listening skills. Young children quickly learn and repeat new words. The childminder sensitively reinforces young children's language using the correct pronunciation. Children enjoy drawing and display good pencil control. Children follow their own creative ideas. They show excellent hand-to-eye coordination
